The state government has announced a major police reshuffle, transferring and posting 43 senior officials across districts and specialized units. Key changes include new appointments in intelligence, crime, anti-narcotics, vigilance, and law-and-order divisions, aiming to strengthen security, improve efficiency, and enhance public service delivery across the state.
The state government has issued a major reshuffle within the police department, transferring and posting 43 senior officials across various ranks and districts. The move, aimed at strengthening law enforcement and improving efficiency, was confirmed through an order issued by the Personnel & Training Department. The transfers, which are described as being “in the interest of public service,” have taken immediate effect.
The reshuffle marks one of the most significant reorganizations in recent years, affecting not only senior police leadership but also extending down to SP and SDPO levels. The government has indicated that the step was taken to ensure better management of law and order, crime control, and specialized policing requirements in sensitive zones.
Top-Level Appointments and Promotions
Among the most prominent changes, DIG (Crime, Intelligence & Security) Krishnendu Chakravertty has been promoted to the position of IGP (Intelligence & Security). In addition to his new assignment, he will also continue to hold charge as SP (Special Branch), underscoring the state’s emphasis on bolstering intelligence operations.
DIG Sanjoy Roy, previously handling Training and KTDS, has now been posted as DIG (Crime), while DIG (Headquarters) Prabir Majumder has been given the additional responsibility of overseeing Training. This dual role reflects the administration’s push to maintain a strong training structure for upcoming officers while ensuring smooth headquarters operations.
Another significant move is the transfer of Dilip Ray, Commandant CIAT, Kachucherra. He has been asked to report to the Government of Manipur for further posting, filling the position left vacant by retired officer Subrata Chakraborty.
Key Shifts in Specialized Wings
The reshuffle also brings notable changes in specialized units. Timir Das, earlier serving as SP (MTF), has been moved to the role of Commandant, West Tripura Home Guard Battalion. Replacing him, Kallol Roy, who was Commandant of the Special Armed Force (SAF), has been appointed as SP (MTF) with the additional responsibility of STF and Crime Branch. This indicates a renewed focus on anti-terror operations and crime prevention strategies.
Similarly, reshuffles were carried out in crucial areas like narcotics, vigilance, and cybercrime. Bikash Deb has been appointed as SP (SCRB), while Ranadhir Debbarma has been made AIGP (Law & Order). Rajdeep Deb has been posted as Dy. Commandant, 7th Battalion TSR, reflecting the importance of paramilitary forces in maintaining security in sensitive districts.
Meanwhile, Shyamanda Sharma has been transferred to SP (Anti-Narcotics), signaling heightened attention to the growing menace of drug trafficking. Jeremia Darong has taken over as SP (Vigilance), a department crucial for monitoring corruption-related activities.
District-Level Restructuring
At the district level, several key appointments have been made to ensure a strong administrative grip. Rahul Bahalara has been named SP of Dhalai district, while Pannalal Sen will serve as SDPO Teliamura. Kamal Krishna Das has been transferred to SDPO Jirania, and Soumya Debbarma has been appointed as Assistant Commandant, 7th Battalion TSR.
Other important postings include Kislay Sisodia as Additional SP (Headquarters) of North District and Venkatraman as SP (Probation) in Sepahijala District. In the capital city of Agartala, Aroop Goswami has assumed charge as Additional SP (TPC&B), highlighting the government’s focus on urban law enforcement.
Assignments for Probationary Officers
In addition to senior-level changes, as many as seven IPS probationers have been entrusted with responsibilities as SDPOs or Assistant SPs across various districts. This indicates the administration’s intention to groom young officers by exposing them to field-level policing challenges early in their careers.
Objective of the Reshuffle
According to senior officials, the large-scale reshuffle was carried out to align postings with the evolving needs of law enforcement. It aims to enhance coordination between crime investigation, intelligence gathering, and law-and-order management. The inclusion of probationary officers at strategic positions is expected to bring fresh energy and perspectives into policing practices.

Observers believe that the shake-up will have a direct impact on improving efficiency, particularly in tackling crime, insurgency-related challenges, narcotics trade, and corruption. While some officers have been shifted to completely new domains, others have been tasked with dual roles to maximize available resources.
This administrative restructuring underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining a robust policing framework capable of addressing emerging security concerns while ensuring effective delivery of public service.
