Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha flags off 24 advanced ALS and BLS ambulances in Agartala, strengthening emergency trauma care, maternal health services, and rapid patient transport across the state’s healthcare network.
In a push to strengthen emergency medical services in Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday flagged off 24 state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) facilities. The vehicles were launched from the premises of the Chief Minister’s official residence in Agartala, marking another milestone in the state’s expanding healthcare infrastructure.
The newly introduced ambulances are aimed at improving trauma response and emergency medical transportation, particularly for critically ill patients and accident victims across Tripura. Officials said the fleet is expected to significantly enhance the speed and efficiency of medical assistance, especially in remote and rural regions where immediate access to healthcare facilities can often be a challenge.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Saha stated that the launch of the advanced ambulance fleet adds “another new feather” to Tripura’s healthcare system. He emphasized that the initiative has been designed to benefit all residents of the state by ensuring that emergency medical help reaches patients quickly and efficiently.
According to the Chief Minister, the government has procured 24 ambulances from Tata Motors, each costing approximately ₹24–25 lakh. The total investment for the initiative is estimated to be around ₹5 to ₹5.5 crore. He noted that the vehicles are equipped with modern medical equipment designed to stabilize patients while they are being transported to hospitals.
“Many times, when patients suffer serious injuries or trauma, the absence of proper life-support facilities during transportation can lead to fatalities on the way to hospitals,” Dr. Saha said. “These ambulances will ensure that patients receive immediate medical attention and can be transported safely and quickly.”
Of the total fleet, 20 ambulances will be deployed at trauma care centers across the state to assist accident victims and critically ill patients. The remaining four ambulances will be integrated into the 102 emergency helpline service, which primarily caters to pregnant women and newborns under maternal and child health programs.
The Chief Minister, who also holds the Health portfolio, highlighted that the government is working to eliminate gaps in healthcare services. He praised the Tripura Health and Family Welfare Department for its efforts in implementing the project and strengthening emergency medical response across the state.
“These ambulances are equipped with high-quality automated trolleys that can be operated by a single person, making it easier to lift and move patients,” Dr. Saha explained. “They also include essential equipment to maintain blood circulation, ensure proper respiration, and provide primary medical care during transit.”
Each ambulance will be staffed with trained medical personnel capable of handling emergency situations. The government plans to provide specialized training to ambulance staff to ensure that patients receive professional care from the moment they are picked up until they reach the hospital.

Healthcare officials present at the event said the new ambulance fleet will particularly benefit people living in rural and remote areas of Tripura. Timely access to emergency transport has often been a challenge in these regions, and the new vehicles are expected to bridge that gap.
The initiative reflects the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve emergency response mechanisms. Over the past few years, Tripura has been focusing on upgrading hospitals, expanding diagnostic facilities, and improving ambulance networks to ensure accessible healthcare services.
Senior officials, including Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, the Director of Health Services, and other departmental authorities were present during the launch ceremony.
Dr. Saha dedicated the ambulances to the people of Tripura, stating that the vehicles will remain available to assist citizens in times of medical emergencies.
“Whenever people face medical difficulties, they should be able to rely on quick and efficient emergency services. With these ambulances, we are taking another step toward a more responsive healthcare system,” the Chief Minister said.
