Senior CPI-M leader Sajib Kumar Singh joins BJP in North Tripura, citing lack of recognition in CPI-M and inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The political shift may influence grassroots support and strengthen BJP’s presence in Kadamtala-Kurti constituency.

In a notable political development in North Tripura, senior leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sajib Kumar Singh, has officially resigned from the CPI-M and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move marks a significant shift in the local political landscape and is expected to influence grassroots dynamics in the Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituency.

The political switch took place on Sunday afternoon at Singh’s residence in Ward No. 5 of East Fulbari village, located under the 46th booth of the Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituency. A support meeting was organized on the occasion where several BJP leaders and local party workers gathered to welcome the veteran trade union leader into the party.

Panchayat Samiti Chairman Mihir Ranjan Nath and Kadamtala Mandal Secretary Subhash Das formally welcomed Sajib Kumar Singh by handing him the BJP party flag, symbolizing his entry into the ruling party. The event was attended by a number of local leaders and party activists who expressed confidence that Singh’s decision would strengthen the BJP’s organizational network in the region.

Sajib Kumar Singh had been associated with the CPI-M for many years and was an active member of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) state committee. He had also served as the president of the CPI-M’s Churaibari Committee and was considered a grassroots organizer with considerable influence among workers and rural voters in the area.

Speaking to reporters after joining the BJP, Singh said he had dedicated many years of his political life to the CPI-M but felt that his efforts and contributions were never properly recognized by the party leadership. According to him, the lack of acknowledgement and opportunities within the organization ultimately led him to take the decision to leave the party.

Singh stated that he was inspired by the leadership and development-oriented vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He expressed his desire to contribute to developmental initiatives and welfare programs under the BJP government. He also emphasized that his decision was driven by a commitment to work for the progress of the region and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

The transition was reportedly facilitated by North District Yuva Morcha Secretary Siddhartha Singh, who played an important role in coordinating Singh’s entry into the BJP. During the meeting, several party leaders addressed the gathering, including Panchayat Samiti member Hashim Talukdar, North District Yuva Morcha in-charge Janmadin Karma, and local leader Ustar Ali.

Political observers believe that Singh’s defection could have an impact on local political alignments, particularly in areas where he had built strong connections through trade union activities and grassroots mobilization. His influence among local voters and workers may help the BJP expand its support base in parts of North Tripura.

Adding further significance to the development, four members of Sajib Kumar Singh’s family also joined the BJP along with him. Local sources indicate that a number of supporters and voters associated with Singh are likely to shift their allegiance in the coming days.

As political activities intensify in Tripura’s northern region, Singh’s move is being seen as another indicator of evolving political dynamics in the state, where party realignments and grassroots leadership shifts continue to shape the electoral landscape.
