Tripura CM Manik Saha calls for balanced promotion of Hindi and local languages at Regional Rajbhasha Sammelan inaugurated by Amit Shah, highlighting linguistic unity, National Education Policy 2020 reforms, and participation of over 3,000 delegates nationwide.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the preservation of local languages and the promotion of Hindi should go hand in hand, as the main aim of language is to connect people, not divide them.
Dr. Saha said this while addressing the Eastern, North-Eastern, and Northern Regional Rajbhasha Sammelan, which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the International Indoor Exhibition Centre, Hapania.
Dr. Saha said that the programme was possible because of the Home Minister, who chose Tripura as the venue for the event.
He added that the Sammelan should inspire everyone.
“On behalf of the State Government, I welcome everyone to the sacred land of Tripura. Yesterday, I arrived here in Tripura from Delhi, and the flight was full of people en route to Tripura. All the rooms in Tripura were booked for the Sammelan. I feel good that such a big Sammelan is taking place. I want to convey my thanks to Home Minister Amit Shah. I am really happy. All the officers have worked tirelessly for the success of this Sammelan. Here, Home Minister Amit Shah has awarded many people for the progress of Rajbhasha,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha said that the entire country must progress together with the Rajbhasha.

“With a well-known language, it becomes easier to create a strong bond between the public and the government, and in this the Hindi language has played a key role. People should receive all government benefits properly so that everyone gets equal benefits. India is a country of many languages. Hindi is the language of the world’s largest democracy and unites people. The preservation of local languages and the promotion of Hindi should go hand in hand. It is not just Hindi that should prevail, but local languages should also thrive alongside it. The main aim of language is to connect people, not divide them. This is our thinking and also the thinking of the North East. The national language should be promoted, and along with it, local languages should also progress, and this is also the strength of our country,” he said.
He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a golden era of the awakening of Indian languages and Sanskrit has begun.
“In English, there are around 10,000 words, while Hindi has over 2.5 lakh words. We all know that under the National Education Policy 2020, stress has been given to the development and practice of various languages. Even the mother tongue has been included as a medium of study in schools. In many schools, higher education is also imparted in the mother tongue. The local language is our identity and soul. In Tripura, the practice of speaking Hindi has increased. The number of Hindi-speaking and Hindi-knowing people has increased,” he added.
During the event, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, MP Rajib Bhattacharya, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, MP Kriti Singh Debbarma, Secretary of the Official Languages Department Anshuli Arya, Professor Milan Rani Jamatia of Tripura Central University, and other ministers, MLAs, public representatives, and senior officials were present.
