Heavy rainfall in Kalyanpur has submerged homes, Aman paddy and vegetable fields, affecting 39 people and damaging crops. Authorities and disaster response teams are assessing flood-hit areas, providing assistance to affected families and farmers, while monitoring swollen rivers, canals and low-lying areas amid continued rainfall.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days has severely disrupted normal life in Kalyanpur block, damaging residential properties and inundating large areas of agricultural land. Several families have been affected by water entering their homes, while farmers are facing the threat of significant crop losses after Aman paddy and vegetable fields were submerged.
According to administrative sources, nine families comprising 39 individuals have been directly affected by the rainfall-related flooding. In several villages, water entered houses, while trees collapsed onto rooftops, causing damage to property and creating additional difficulties for residents.
East Kunjaban, West Dwarikapur and Madhya Kalyanpur Gram Panchayat have emerged as some of the worst-hit areas. Block officials visited the affected locations to assess the situation and interact with residents. The officials assured affected families that necessary assistance and relief measures would be provided based on the extent of damage.
The Kalyanpur Scouts and Guides Disaster Response Unit, operating under the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Magistrate, also reached the flood-affected villages. Members of the response team assessed ground conditions and interacted with residents while extending immediate support. The teams have also remained prepared to assist further should rainfall continue and the situation deteriorate.
The heavy downpour has also dealt a major blow to agriculture in the area. Vast stretches of Aman paddy fields and vegetable plots under the Baganbazar agricultural sector have been inundated. Farmers said freshly planted crops are particularly vulnerable, with prolonged waterlogging raising concerns over crop rotting and substantial financial losses.
Officials from the Crop Insurance Department and the Agriculture Office inspected the submerged agricultural fields and met affected cultivators. They collected information about the extent of crop damage and assured farmers that appropriate assistance would be considered to help mitigate losses caused by the excessive rainfall and flooding.
Meanwhile, rivers, canals and low-lying areas in and around Kalyanpur remain swollen. The administration has kept a close watch on water levels and is continuously collecting reports on damage from different locations.
