Health Secretary Kiran Gitte reviews Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital, emphasizing modernization, digital healthcare, improved infrastructure, specialist doctors, blood supply and paperless services.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte on Saturday visited Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital in Tripura’s Gomati district and emphasized the need to further modernize and digitalize healthcare services to ensure quality treatment reaches people living in remote and rural areas.
During his visit, Gitte inspected various wards and reviewed the existing healthcare infrastructure and treatment facilities at the hospital. He was accompanied by Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma, Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, Chief Medical Officer of Gomati district Dr. Kamal Reang and other senior officials of the Health Department.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, the Health Secretary said the infrastructure and medical facilities at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital have improved significantly over the past several years. He noted that while medical tests were previously dependent largely on outside agencies, most diagnostic services are now available within the hospital.
The hospital currently has facilities including digital X-ray, ultrasonography, an advanced operation theatre and modern treatment services for mothers and children. Machinery required for Thyroid and CBC testing is also expected to become functional soon, further strengthening the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities.
Gitte said seven doctors are presently serving at the hospital. However, he assured that the demand for additional specialists, including an anesthesiologist, medicine specialist, orthopedic specialist and more junior doctors, would be placed before Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for consideration.
The hospital receives around 150 patients daily in its outdoor section. At present, approximately 30 to 40 patients are referred every month to hospitals in Udaipur or the district hospital for further treatment. According to the Health Secretary, the department’s objective is to reduce referrals to zero by strengthening infrastructure, specialist services and diagnostic facilities at Amarpur.
He also highlighted the importance of maintaining adequate blood supplies to ensure uninterrupted operation theatre and emergency services. Since OT services are already functional at the hospital, Gitte appealed to local clubs, social organizations and villagers to organize voluntary blood donation camps to maintain sufficient stocks.
Another major focus of the visit was the ongoing digital transformation of healthcare services. Work is underway to introduce digital and paperless services at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital along the lines of Civil Hospital in Agartala. The Health Department has already introduced the Integrated Health Management System and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) card to make healthcare services faster, easier and more accessible.
Under the proposed digital system, patients will gradually be able to receive doctors’ prescriptions, X-ray and ultrasonography reports, other diagnostic test results and discharge certificates through email. The initiative is expected to reduce paperwork while saving patients both time and money.
Following the Health Secretary’s inspection, Director of Health Services Dr. Debashree Debbarma chaired a review meeting at the hospital. The meeting was attended by CMO Dr. Kamal Reang, SDMO (Udaipur) Dr. Biswajit Debnath, doctors and programme managers.
Dr. Debbarma said that, following the Health Secretary’s instructions, all possible efforts would be made to further improve healthcare delivery at Amarpur Subdivisional Hospital. She also informed that water connection work for the newly constructed staff quarters would be completed soon, after which the quarters would be handed over to the respective staff members.
