Union Home Secy Govind Mohan chaired a high-level meeting with CAPF chiefs to discuss enhanced border security, counter-terror readiness, and inter-agency intelligence sharing after the Pahalgam attack in J&K. Senior officials from BSF, NSG, SSB, and Assam Rifles attended the strategic security meet.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a high-level security meeting on Tuesday with the heads of key Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and senior officials from India’s top paramilitary and security agencies. The meeting focused on reinforcing border security, enhancing counter-terror preparedness, and strengthening inter-agency intelligence sharing, particularly in light of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Present at the meeting were Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chaudhary, Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG) Brighu Srinivasan, and Director General of the Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera. Additional Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Anupama Nilekar Chandra also participated in the discussions. The presence of these top security leaders highlighted the strategic significance of the meeting.

The agenda primarily revolved around a coordinated approach to tightening India’s border security, which has gained urgency due to recent events in sensitive regions. The BSF, responsible for securing India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, plays a crucial role in maintaining national security. The SSB, guarding the borders with Nepal and Bhutan, and the Assam Rifles, deployed along the India-Myanmar frontier, were also key players in the discussion.

The NSG, India’s elite counter-terrorism unit known for handling high-risk operations and urban hostage situations, was brought into the dialogue to discuss anti-terror strategies and readiness. Emphasis was laid on improving rapid response capabilities and integrating real-time intelligence to neutralize threats swiftly and effectively.

The Home Secretary underscored the importance of seamless coordination among all forces to respond to evolving security challenges. As threats become more complex and cross-border infiltration attempts increase, the role of collaborative intelligence and rapid mobilisation of forces has become indispensable.

Sources indicate that the meeting resulted in several actionable directives aimed at streamlining communication between forces, deploying advanced surveillance technologies, and conducting joint training exercises to enhance operational synergy.

This meeting comes at a time when India’s internal and border security apparatus is facing renewed pressure, particularly in the northern and northeastern frontiers. With geopolitical dynamics shifting and the risk of asymmetric threats rising, the government appears focused on proactive security governance.
