Unakoti District Police conducted the ‘Prayas’ awareness programme educating school children on drug abuse, child marriage, road safety, and cybercrime, reinforcing preventive education and community policing for a safer and informed future generation.
The Unakoti District Police organized a large-scale awareness programme titled “Prayas” under the jurisdiction of Pecharthal Police Station. The initiative focused on educating school-going children about pressing social and digital challenges that increasingly affect young minds in today’s fast-changing environment.
The awareness programme aimed to sensitize students about the dangers of drug addiction, child marriage, road accidents, and cybercrime, all of which pose serious threats to the well-being and future of children and adolescents. By addressing these issues at an early stage, the police sought to empower students with knowledge that would help them make responsible and informed decisions.
Addressing the gathering, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Unakoti District, Sudambika R, spoke extensively on the harmful impact of drug abuse, highlighting how substance addiction not only damages physical and mental health but also disrupts families and society at large. She urged students to stay away from drugs and to report any suspicious activity to trusted authorities.
The SP also emphasized the legal consequences of child marriage, explaining how early marriage affects education, health, and future opportunities, especially for young girls. Students were encouraged to speak up and seek help if they come across such practices in their surroundings.
Another crucial segment of the programme focused on road safety awareness. Officials stressed the importance of following traffic rules, wearing helmets and seat belts, and avoiding reckless behavior that often leads to fatal accidents involving minors.
With the rise of digital usage among children, the programme also addressed cyber safety and cybercrime prevention. Students were guided on safe internet practices, including protecting personal information, identifying online fraud, and responding to cyberbullying or suspicious online behavior.

The ‘Prayas’ initiative highlighted the importance of preventive education through community policing, reinforcing the role of law enforcement beyond crime control. By engaging directly with students, the Unakoti District Police demonstrated its commitment to nurturing a safer, informed, and socially responsible generation.
Such initiatives are expected to play a vital role in building awareness, resilience, and confidence among young citizens, ensuring they grow up equipped to face both social and digital challenges responsibly.
