In response to the recent surge in dengue cases within the state, the Department of Family Welfare and Disease Prevention in Tripura has initiated comprehensive measures to combat the spread of the disease. Dr. Supriya Mallik, the director (in-charge) of the department, addressed the media during a press conference held in Agartala on Thursday, outlining the strategies being undertaken.

Dr. Mallik emphasized that the department has proactively undertaken all necessary measures to address the escalating situation. A medical team has been strategically stationed along the bordering regions, including Agartala-Akhaura and Srimantapur, to screen incoming passengers and prevent the potential transmission of the disease across borders.

To address the outbreak at its epicenter, health camps have been operational since July 21 in Dhanpur, a district within Sepahijala, which has reported a significant number of cases. Adequate medical personnel, including doctors and nurses, have been mobilized to treat patients affected by dengue. Specialized wards dedicated to dengue treatment have been established at Agartala GBP Hospital, alongside the provision of ample medication.

Dr. Mallik underscored the importance of community engagement and awareness. A medical team from the health department has embarked on a comprehensive door-to-door campaign in different areas of Dhanpur, sensitizing villagers about preventive measures and highlighting the necessity of eradicating mosquito breeding sites. Schools have joined the efforts, with National Service Scheme (NSS) units actively participating in mosquito control activities, including the distribution of pesticides.

Presently, 32 individuals are under treatment for dengue at GB Hospital, while a total of 158 dengue cases have been identified in Sepahijala district, with an additional 24 cases reported in Mohanpur and Kanchanmala areas. The health authorities are collaborating with schools and disseminating information extensively to ensure that the general public remains well-informed and vigilant.

Dr. Mallik affirmed the department’s dedication to containing the outbreak and safeguarding the health and well-being of Tripura’s residents. The concerted efforts of medical teams, community involvement, and proactive measures are poised to curb the spread of dengue and mitigate its impact on the region.
