Women Journalists of Tripura Felicitated, Journalism transcends Gender, says Add SP Traffic

On the occasion of International Women's Day  around 60 female journalists and news personalities of Tripura were honored with the "Ananya Sangbad Joddha" award for the first time, recognizing their remarkable contributions to the field of journalism. Additionally, the "Shaktirupa Sammanna" was presented to journalist Reshmi Debnath in acknowledgment of her outstanding work and dedication.The event was organized by the Tripura Journalists Union at the Agartala Press Club .

Highlighting the power of journalism to transcend gender and embrace truth from all perspectives, Additional SP Traffic Sudambika R delivered an inspiring address during a program held to commemorate International Women’s Day 2025.

Addressing the gathering, Sudambika R emphasized the shared mission of journalists and police in uncovering the truth. She remarked, "My revolver might not have the power that the pen of a journalist holds," highlighting the profound influence of journalism in shaping society and holding power to account. Her words resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the vital role of the media in a democratic society.

The Additional SP also addressed the pressing issue of child marriage in Tripura, drawing attention to the need for greater awareness and education to combat this practice. Sharing her own struggles and experiences, she underlined the importance of educating the youth, particularly young girls, to build a strong and resilient society. Sudambika R passionately argued that when women become economically self-sufficient, societal evils like child marriage and domestic violence would gradually diminish.

Her speech was a powerful call to action, urging collective efforts to empower women and create a society where they can thrive without fear or discrimination. She envisioned a future where every girl child has the opportunity to fulfill her potential and contribute positively to society.

The event saw the presence of several esteemed guests, including Arpita Saha, Director of Shyamsundar Co. Jewellers, social worker and former journalist Fulan Bhattacharjee, and the president of the Tripura Journalists Union, Pranab Sarkar, among others. Their presence added grace to the occasion, which was marked by a spirit of solidarity and a commitment to advancing the cause of women's empowerment in Tripura.
