Four government schools in Kailashahar under Unakoti district have become non-functional due to a lack of student enrollment. According to District Education Officer (DEO) Prashanta Kilikdar, the schools—Muraibari SB School, Uttar Srirampur JB School, Dasharath Para JB School, and Muslim Palli JB School—ceased operations two years ago as no students were enrolled.
The teachers from these schools have already been relocated to nearby institutions. Meanwhile, the school buildings are deteriorating, and valuable items are being stolen. Additionally, two homeless families have taken shelter in Dasharath Para JB School.
Some guardians of former students stated that modern schools with better infrastructure have been developed in the area, providing improved learning environments for children. The lack of enrollment in these schools highlights the shifting educational preferences and infrastructure advancements in the region.
