Tripura Minister Ratan Lal Nath handed over the national flag to BSF jawans in Mohanpur under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, honouring their sacrifices and role in safeguarding the borders. The event celebrated patriotism, unity, and the significance of the tricolour as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

In a stirring display of patriotism and gratitude towards India’s border security forces, Tripura’s Agriculture and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday handed over the national flag to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel as part of the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

The event took place at the 104th Battalion of the BSF, stationed in Mohanpur, West Tripura district, a location close to the India–Bangladesh international border. Nath, who is the second-in-command in the Tripura Cabinet after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, joined the BSF troops in celebrating the spirit of independence and national unity.

Addressing the jawans, the Minister described the tricolour as more than just a national emblem. “The Indian national flag is not merely a piece of cloth—it is a reflection of our hope, our blood, and our history,” Nath said, his voice charged with emotion. “It was a proud moment to celebrate the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign with the jawans who selflessly guard our dreams. Their patriotism and resilience are the true strength of our nation.”

Honouring the Guardians of the Nation

Nath paid heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the BSF personnel, who risk their lives daily to safeguard India’s borders. He also highlighted the crucial role they play beyond their primary duty of border protection.

“Along with protecting the borders and the country, the BSF is actively engaged in various civic action programmes. They also provide critical assistance during natural calamities. These initiatives not only ensure national security but also strengthen the bond with local communities and build lasting trust with villages along the border,” Nath said.

Following the formal ceremony, the Minister distributed sweets and sports items to the BSF jawans as a ppreciation for their unwavering service. The warm and informal interaction underscored the camaraderie and mutual respect between the state leadership and the armed forces.

The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Movement

The event was part of the ongoing ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, an initiative launched under the larger umbrella of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence. This year, the campaign runs from August 2 to August 15, encouraging citizens across the nation to hoist the tricolour in their homes and public spaces.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Union Ministry of Culture, aims to instill a sense of pride and patriotism among the people while fostering greater awareness about the significance of the national flag. The tricolour, with its saffron, white, and green stripes and the Ashoka Chakra at its heart, serves as a constant reminder of India’s unity, diversity, and shared destiny.

By taking the campaign to the border areas and involving BSF personnel, the initiative not only celebrates the nation’s independence but also acknowledges the vital contribution of those who protect its sovereignty every day.

Symbolism and Sentiment

For the jawans stationed far from their families, receiving the national flag from a state minister was more than a ceremonial gesture—it was an affirmation that the nation stands behind them. The event in Mohanpur resonated with deep symbolism, linking the sacrifices of the armed forces to the collective pride of the people.

“The flag embodies the spirit of India. Every time it waves, it reminds us of the struggles endured and the dreams yet to be fulfilled. Handing over the tricolour to our soldiers is a way of saying that we are united in purpose and gratitude,” Nath told reporters after the event.
