Alia Bhatt says she never felt she should have acted in Don’t Be Shy, as she focuses on producing and introducing four new actors and a debutant director, describing the film as a deeply personal story about growing up.

Actress and producer Alia Bhatt has said she “never felt” that she should have acted in Don’t Be Shy, despite being closely involved with the upcoming film from its early stages. Speaking at the trailer launch, Alia explained that her primary focus has been on her role as a producer and on introducing four new actors along with a debutant director.

During the event, Alia was asked whether she had ever felt that she could have played a role in the film. Responding to the question, she said, “No, I don’t think I ever felt that…” Her comments highlighted the different perspective she has gained while working behind the camera as a producer.

Alia, who made her acting debut 14 years ago with Student Of The Year, said producing Don’t Be Shy has brought her a different kind of fulfilment. According to the actress, she has been involved in developing the film’s story and world from the beginning, making the project particularly meaningful to her.

“14 years ago, I made my debut as an actor, and 14 years later, I am introducing four new actors and a debutant director, and I am way more nervous than they are right now,” Alia said at the trailer launch.

She added that she had “butterflies” in her stomach as the film prepares to reach audiences. While she continues to enjoy acting and being in front of the camera, Alia said producing offers a different sense of satisfaction.

“I love being an actor and I love being in front of the camera, but being a producer has another sort of fulfilment,” she said. “It gives me another sort of joy because we’ve been involved in building the world, the story, from the word go…”

Alia also recalled how the project began after director Sreeti Mukerji approached her team with an idea for a film of this kind. The team decided to develop the project together before taking it forward with their partners.

The actress-producer described Don’t Be Shy as a story that is very close to her heart. She expressed confidence that audiences would connect with the film because of its focus on experiences associated with growing up.

The film follows 20-year-old Shyamili “Shy” Das, a young woman who believes she has figured out how her life should unfold. However, her carefully planned existence takes an unexpected turn, sending her into a situation where things begin to spiral beyond her control.

With four new actors making their introduction and Sreeti Mukerji making her directorial debut, Don’t Be Shy marks an important new chapter for the team behind the project. For Alia, the film represents more than another production venture, as she has been involved in shaping its story and world from the outset.

Her comments at the trailer launch also underline the responsibility she feels toward the newcomers associated with the project. Rather than wishing to step into the film as an actor, Alia appears focused on helping the new cast and debutant director establish their own identity through the story.
