Probashi Sanatani Oikya Parishad (PSOP) hosted the Middle East’s largest Durga Puja in Ajman, UAE, celebrating unity, culture, and devotion. Thousands joined the vibrant five-day festival, showcasing Indian heritage and the UAE’s spirit of tolerance and inclusivity.
The Probashi Sanatani Oikya Parishad (PSOP), one of the most active Indian community organizations in the United Arab Emirates, successfully hosted the largest Durga Puja celebration in the Middle East, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors from around the world. The five-day event, filled with color, devotion, and cultural expression, has become a major symbol of unity, tolerance, and inclusivity in the UAE.
Founded in the UAE with the mission of preserving cultural heritage while promoting togetherness, PSOP has grown into a vibrant organization of more than 400 active members. The group regularly organizes major religious and cultural festivals such as Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, Dol Purnima, Pitha Utsav, and Pohela Boishakh, bringing the expatriate Bengali and Indian communities closer together under one banner of devotion and shared identity.
This year’s Durga Puja celebrations were hosted with grandeur, reflecting not just the religious spirit but also the UAE’s national values of tolerance, coexistence, and cultural harmony. Over five days, the event offered an immersive experience through art exhibitions, musical performances, traditional dances, and an array of authentic Bengali and Indian cuisines.
Celebrating Diversity and Devotion
The highlight of the event was the presence of several eminent personalities. Among the chief guests was Dr. Bu Abdullah, a distinguished Emirati businessman, philanthropist, and chairman of the Bu Abdullah Group of Companies. Dr. Abdullah commended PSOP’s flawless organization and community-driven spirit, calling the event “a shining example of harmony and mutual respect that defines the UAE’s social fabric.”
Another special guest, Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda, a world-renowned Odissi dancer, mesmerized the audience with his soulful and graceful performance. His dance, deeply rooted in spirituality and tradition, encapsulated the emotional essence of the festival and added a touch of cultural brilliance to the celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajit Kumar Roy, President of PSOP, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Ajman authorities, including Ajman Police, Tourism, and Traffic departments, for their seamless support.
“Our mission is to create a space where culture and community thrive together. In a nation as welcoming as the UAE, we are honored to host an event that transcends nationality and religion. Witnessing thousands of people from diverse backgrounds celebrate together was truly inspiring,” Roy said.
A Platform for Cultural Unity and Social Good
Beyond cultural festivities, PSOP is deeply engaged in social and humanitarian work. Entirely funded through voluntary community contributions, the organization actively participates in charity drives, supports underprivileged families, and encourages youth engagement through art, education, and mentorship.
The group’s initiatives include:
-
Creating inclusive spaces for cultural and emotional well-being
-
Building collaborative networks of families and professionals
-
Encouraging children to connect with their heritage through education and creativity
-
Extending humanitarian support to the sick and needy within the community
Such activities underscore PSOP’s broader mission—to foster compassion, coexistence, and cultural pride while contributing to the UAE’s multicultural identity.
The UAE as a Hub of Global Harmony
The UAE, known for its commitment to tolerance and multiculturalism, provides a unique platform for communities like PSOP to flourish. Organizations such as PSOP contribute significantly to this vision by bridging cultures and creating bonds that go beyond borders. Their efforts help build a legacy of unity where future generations—Emiratis and expatriates alike—can take pride in a society grounded in shared values and mutual respect.
A Landmark Year for PSOP
This year’s Durga Puja also marked a new milestone for PSOP—the launch of its first annual magazine, “Probashe Sharodanjali ~ Sharodiya Sharanika 2025.” The publication, distributed exclusively to members, captures the essence of PSOP’s journey, achievements, and cultural commitment.
Through its growing network, PSOP continues to exemplify how tradition can thrive in a cosmopolitan society, merging heritage with modern community values. Its Durga Puja celebration now stands as a landmark cultural event in the Middle East, admired for its scale, discipline, and devotion.
