Rampada Jamatia new Speaker

BJP MLA and a senior Janajati leader Rampada Jamatia’s name has been proposed as the new Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly.
The BJP legislators proposed it during the pre-assembly meeting held at Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s official residence on Thursday evening.
According to sources, the new Speaker will assume office on March 18.
Jamatia, a former secretary to Jamatia Hoda, will be the second Speaker in the state from the Tribal community after Communist leader Sudhanva Debbarma who held the position in 1978 during the first Left Front government. Before joining politics Jamatia was an employee of the ONGC and an active member of the RSS.

The Speaker’s post fell vacant after the demise of Biswabandhu Sen, who was a seasoned politician and MLA from Dharmanagar, on December 26 last.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy and other legislators from BJP, Tipra Motha and IPFT greeted Jamatia after the meeting.
“I firmly believe that his long political experience, dedication, and leadership will help make the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly stronger and more effective in the days ahead,” the Chief Minister mentioned.
Pradyot Kishore Debbarma , head of the BJP ally TIPRA Motha had already declared that the party would support a tribal Speaker irrespective of his party. Pradyot specifically uttered the name of Rampada Jamatia and assured his support in case BJP chose him.
Rampada is an MLA representing the Bagma (ST) constituency. He completed his Higher Secondary education from Bishranganj Higher Secondary School in 1974.
