Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu inspects Agartala Land Port at the India-Bangladesh border, reviewing passenger services, cargo operations, and infrastructure. The visit highlights the strategic importance of the Agartala-Akhaura trade gateway for regional connectivity and cross-border commerce.
The Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu, visited the integrated land port at the Agartala–Akhaura Border on Saturday morning to review its operational efficiency and infrastructure facilities. The visit highlighted the strategic importance of the border trade gateway connecting Agartala in India with Akhaura in Bangladesh.
Upon arrival at the land port, the Governor was warmly received by Dipak Majumder, Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA. Senior officials and administrative representatives were also present to brief the Governor on the port’s activities and development initiatives.
The Governor began his visit by touring the passenger terminal building, where officials provided a detailed briefing on passenger movement, immigration procedures, and other related services. Authorities explained the increasing flow of cross-border travelers and emphasized the role of the port in facilitating smooth movement between India and Bangladesh.
Following the inspection of the terminal, a formal meeting was held in the conference hall of the passenger terminal building. During the session, a comprehensive presentation on the functioning and significance of the Agartala Integrated Check Post was delivered. Officials highlighted the port’s contribution to cross-border trade, regional connectivity, and economic development in the northeastern region of India.
During the meeting, Debashis Nandi, Manager of the land port, presented detailed insights into the port’s operational framework, cargo management systems, passenger services, and future development plans. He also discussed ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve efficiency to handle growing trade volumes between the two countries.
After the meeting, Governor Nallu conducted a thorough inspection of various operational sections within the facility. He visited the cargo building, cold storage unit, warehouses, and other logistical infrastructure that support import-export activities at the border. Officials briefed him on storage capacity, cargo handling procedures, and the importance of maintaining international trade standards.
The Governor also interacted with port authorities and emphasized the need to ensure smooth trade operations, improved passenger facilities, and enhanced coordination among different agencies working at the border.
Secretary to the Governor, Uttam Kumar Chakma, accompanied him during the visit along with other officials. The inspection underlined the government’s continued focus on strengthening border infrastructure and boosting economic cooperation between India and Bangladesh through efficient land port operations.
