Gomati SP Dr. Kiran Kumar unveils a robust Diwali and Kali Puja security plan at Tripureswari Temple, deploying 37 CCTVs, 10 watch towers, and multiple police units to ensure safe celebrations in Udaipur’s Matabari from October 20–22.

As Diwali and Kali Puja festivities approach, the Gomati District Police have put in place an extensive and multi-layered security plan to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of celebrations at the iconic Tripureswari Temple in Udaipur. The annual Diwali Mela, one of Tripura’s most visited religious events, will be held from October 20 to 22 at the sacred Matabari premises, drawing thousands of devotees and tourists from across the state and neighboring regions.

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar, speaking to reporters after a detailed inspection of the temple site on Thursday, said that all arrangements are being executed in a planned and coordinated manner to prevent any untoward incident and manage the heavy rush of devotees.

“We conducted a comprehensive field visit today to assess the arrangements for the Diwali Mela. Entry and exit points for devotees and VIPs have been carefully reviewed to ensure smooth access and crowd regulation,” Dr. Kumar stated.

Layered Security Network for Devotee Safety

To maintain law and order, a large deployment of district police, CRPF, and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) will be stationed in and around the temple area. The security grid will include 37 CCTV cameras, strategically installed to monitor all major entry and exit points, parking zones, and temple corridors.

Additionally, 10 watch towers have been erected to enable round-the-clock visual surveillance, while 8 police assistance booths and 28 drop gates have been set up to manage crowd flow and ensure quick response to any emergency.

“This time, we are focusing on both technology and manpower to ensure that devotees can celebrate the festival in a safe and peaceful environment,” the SP said.

Vehicle Checks, Patrolling, and Traffic Control

The SP informed that special vehicle passes will be issued only to those who have applied at least two days before the mela to avoid last-minute congestion near the temple. Meanwhile, traffic management is being reinforced through multiple check points, with officers assigned to direct and control vehicular movement during peak hours.

In the run-up to the festival, patrolling and vehicle checks have already been intensified across the district for the past ten days. Security forces have been conducting night patrols and surprise inspections to identify suspicious movements or activities.

“Our teams are maintaining strict vigilance, and all entry routes to Udaipur and the temple have been brought under surveillance. We are working closely with other security agencies to ensure seamless coordination,” Dr. Kumar added.

Safety First: Crowd Management and Emergency Response

Authorities are also paying special attention to crowd management, particularly during the Sandhi Puja and Deepavali night, when footfall is expected to reach its peak. Disaster management and medical response teams will remain on standby throughout the three-day celebration.

Temporary barricades and queue lines have been established to streamline movement and prevent overcrowding. Fire service units and ambulances will also be deployed near the temple premises for any emergency.

Coordination Between Civil and Police Administration

Dr. Kumar highlighted that the district administration and the temple management committee have been working in tandem to ensure that all arrangements—ranging from security deployment to traffic diversion—are effectively synchronized.

Local volunteers and civic defense personnel have been briefed on crowd-handling protocols and emergency procedures. “The success of such a massive event depends on coordination. Every department, including police, health, and fire services, is playing a vital role,” he said.

Ensuring a Joyous and Safe Diwali at Matabari

With the elaborate measures in place, authorities are confident that this year’s Diwali Mela and Kali Puja will be celebrated in a secure and joyous atmosphere. The SP urged devotees to cooperate with the police and follow safety instructions during the festivities.

“We request everyone to maintain discipline and cooperate with our personnel. Together, we can make this Diwali a safe and memorable celebration for all,” Dr. Kumar concluded.
