Tripura Panchayat Minister Kishor Barman reviewed development works in North Tripura and Unakoti, stressing digitization, infrastructure upgrades, and regular monitoring. Highlighting Tripura’s achievement of 100% rural household data digitization and seven national awards, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stronger, technology-driven Panchayat governance for rural development.
Tripura’s Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Kishor Barman, on Wednesday chaired separate review meetings in North Tripura and Unakoti districts to assess the progress of developmental works under the Panchayat department. The meetings highlighted ongoing challenges, achievements, and future plans to further strengthen rural governance in the state.
The first session was held at the Circuit House Conference Hall in Kailashahar, Unakoti district. Though scheduled to start at 11 am, the meeting began at 12:30 pm. It was attended by key officials, including Unakoti Zilla Sabhadhipati Amlendu Das, Panchayat Director Prasun De, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Kumarghat Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Sumati Das, Additional District Magistrate Argha Saha, and Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of Chandipur and Gournagar Panchayat Samitis.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate presented a detailed report on Panchayat-related developments in the district. The minister stressed that such review meetings will be held every three months to ensure accountability, timely progress, and consistent monitoring of Panchayat projects.

Barman also outlined the department’s future plans, which include the construction of permanent buildings for Panchayat offices that lack adequate infrastructure and ensuring reliable internet connectivity across all offices. He emphasized that these steps are vital to strengthening grassroots democracy and effective service delivery in rural areas.
The minister highlighted Tripura’s achievements in Panchayat governance, recalling that the state had recently won seven national awards in recognition of its innovative and effective rural development initiatives. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to maintaining these high standards and working towards even greater success in the future.
Following the Unakoti review, Barman traveled to Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, where another review meeting was held. This session focused on Panchayat and Block Development Office (BDO) works across the eight blocks of the district. The meeting was attended by officials from the Block Development Offices, Panchayat Secretaries, Zilla Parishad members, and senior officials from the Panchayat Department.
North Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath welcomed the minister, while two senior opposition legislators, CPM MLAs Shailendra Chandra Nath (Jubarajnagar) and Islam Uddin (Kurti-Kadamtala), were also present at the meeting, along with senior bureaucrats.
During his interaction with reporters after the meeting, Barman stressed the importance of digitization in Panchayat operations. He noted that all Panchayat activities in Tripura are currently conducted using computer systems and internet connectivity. “One key focus of today’s meeting is on how to further modernize and streamline these systems to make them more effective and accessible,” he said.
Barman further stated that Tripura is now among the top states in India to have uploaded 100 percent of rural household data online as per central government guidelines — a milestone that only three states in the country have achieved so far. This achievement, he said, reflects Tripura’s strong commitment to transparency, efficiency, and data-driven governance.
The meetings in both districts provided a platform for Panchayat leaders, administrators, and government officials to exchange ideas, identify bottlenecks, and align on strategies to enhance rural development. The minister’s emphasis on infrastructure, digitization, and regular monitoring underscored the government’s determination to make Panchayat institutions more responsive and efficient.
