In a remarkable display of medical expertise and unwavering dedication, a team of doctors at Gomati District Hospital today, led by Dr. Kajal Kumar Das, Medical Superintendent and renowned Gynaecologist & Obstetrician, pulled Ananta Manjuri Jamatia, a 34-year-old tribal mother hailed from Gomaku, Amarpur’s Garjan khala, back from the brink of death. In medical terminology, a case of Maternal-Near-Miss (MNM) where mother almost died but survived due to courageous intervention of medical team. The incident, has become a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the extraordinary capabilities of the hospital’s medical staff.
Dr. Kajal Kumar Das said, Ananta Manjuri Jamatia referred from Amarpur SDH was rushed to the hospital in a severely critical condition. Her situation was dire: her blood pressure was unreadable, her pulse was feeble, and she was in excruciating pain. But our medical team soon discovered the gravity of her condition – her baby had already been delivered, abdominal cavity, outside the damaged uterus, presenting in a transverse lie position, a critical position where baby lies horizontally in mother’s womb. This life-threatening scenario demanded immediate and decisive action. And we did it.
Dr. Kajal Kumar Das, along with Dr. Arpan Bhattacharjee and Dr. Moutushi Chowdhury, and a team of dedicated Nursing Officers Kusum Chakraborty, Rekha Das, Sumana Baraj, Badal Majumder, OT Assistant Bikram Das, Litan Das, sprang into action. The immediate priority was to stabilize Ananta Manjuri. Emergency resuscitation and volume expanders were administered to restore her blood pressure and pulse. The team meticulously worked to haemodynamically stabilize her, a crucial step before she could undergo emergency surgery. Dr. Bhattacharjee further informed that we had to remove her uterus as it was severely ruptured and damaged.
The situation was further complicated by the need for urgent blood transfusions. In the meantime, 03 (three) units of blood were administered to replenish her depleted blood volume. With her condition stabilized, the medical team swiftly moved her into the operating theatre. The atmosphere was tense, but the doctors and nurses remained focused, their collective expertise and determination driving them forward.
After a tense and demanding operation, Ananta Manjuri’s life was saved. The medical team’s relentless efforts had prevailed against overwhelming odds. Dr. Kajal Kumar Das, along with his colleagues, has earned the heartfelt gratitude of Ananta Manjuri’s family. However amidst the relief, there was also profound sadness as expressed by Jharna Debi, the elder sister of Pregnant mother, adding that tragically the baby was already died but we all are praying God for mother. Doctors informed that Ananta devi is now recovering in the post-operative ward. All cares are being taken of, Dr. Das told and as of now the patient is doing well.
Their actions have not only saved a life but also restored faith in the power of compassionate and skilled medical intervention by doctors and medical team members
