BJP and Tipra Motha alliance talks are likely to reach a final stage in Delhi as senior leaders discuss land rights, the tripartite accord and seat-sharing ahead of Tripura’s Village Committee elections scheduled for September 28.
The alliance talks between BJP and Tipra Motha are likely to take final shape on Friday with senior leaders of both the parties set to meet in high-level talks under the supervision of BJP high command and senior officials of the Government of India, sources in both the parties said.
The meeting is expected to be chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Home Secretary have left for New Delhi. From Tipra Motha, rebel-turned-MLA Ranjit Debbarma and Minister Brishaketu Debbarma have also reached New Delhi. Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarman who was in Shillong also left for the national capital.
Tipra Motha Party leaders had been strongly advocating for implementation of tripartite accord as an essential pre-condition for an electoral understanding ahead of the VC polls. After a massive show of strength in the 2026 TTAADC elections, Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman made it clear that without any visible progress in the implementation of the accord, there shall be no electoral understanding with the BJP.
Debbarman had also been very vocal for ‘land rights’ of the tribal people. Top sources said that the government was keen to address this demand affirmatively. However, the nitty-gritty of the considerations and to what extent the autonomy over land would be granted remains to be seen.
Sources said the Centre may take steps on the issue of land rights in accordance with the provisions of the agreement. The TMP has also been seeking greater powers for the ADC and stronger constitutional and administrative safeguards for indigenous communities.
Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb who has recently been appointed the National General Secretary of the BJP might also attend the meeting.

The talks come as preparations for the Village Committee elections gather pace. Polling is scheduled for September 28, while counting will take place on October 5. Both Tipra Motha and BJP have started their individual preparations for the crucial elections conducted after a hiatus of 10 years. The elections would be held for 587 village committees which act as the rural local bodies under the TTAADC.

Leaders of both the parties are hoping that the Friday meeting would bring fruitful results for both the allies and the differences that grew over time would be set aside.
