BJP declares Nitin Nabin as sole candidate for National President after uncontested nomination process. With full backing from top leadership, Nabin is set to be elected unopposed as the BJP’s 12th national chief.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday formally declared senior leader Nitin Nabin as the sole candidate for the post of BJP National President, effectively clearing the path for his unopposed election as the party’s 12th national chief. The announcement came after the completion of the nomination, scrutiny, and withdrawal process, during which no other contender emerged.

In an official statement released late Monday evening, National Returning Officer K. Laxman confirmed that only one nomination, that of Nitin Nabin, remained valid after the scrutiny process. With no withdrawals and no rival nominations filed, Nabin is now set to be elected unopposed, in accordance with the BJP’s constitutional procedures.

According to the Returning Officer, a total of 37 sets of nomination papers were submitted in support of Nabin between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday. All nomination papers were examined and found to be valid. The absence of any competing nominations underlined the strong internal consensus within the party.

The election process gained momentum after the BJP successfully completed the election of 30 out of its 36 state presidents, crossing the constitutional requirement of at least 50 percent of state units having elected leadership before the national president’s election could be initiated. This procedural milestone enabled the central leadership to move forward with the national election schedule.

The formal notification for the election process was issued on January 16, 2026, along with the publication of the electoral roll. Nominations opened and closed on Monday, followed immediately by scrutiny. With no withdrawals recorded, the process concluded swiftly, reflecting a smooth and uncontested internal transition.

Nitin Nabin, 45 years old, was appointed as the BJP National Working President on December 14, 2025. Since then, he has emerged as a key organisational strategist and has reportedly enjoyed the full confidence of the party’s top leadership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and outgoing BJP President J.P. Nadda are understood to have strongly backed his elevation.

Earlier on Monday, several senior BJP leaders, including Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and state-level representatives, submitted nomination papers in Nabin’s support. Their presence and participation were widely interpreted as a signal of unity and continuity within the party’s organisational framework.

As per BJP rules, a candidate for national president must be proposed by at least 20 members of the electoral college from a state and must have a minimum of 15 years of party membership. Nabin meets all eligibility criteria and enjoys extensive organisational experience, making him a consensus choice.

The formal election will be conducted by the BJP’s electoral college, comprising members of the national council and state councils. Given the uncontested nature of the process, the BJP is expected to officially announce Nabin’s election as National President on Tuesday.

Political observers view Nabin’s elevation as a strategic generational shift, aimed at injecting youthful leadership into the party while maintaining ideological continuity. Since assuming the Working President’s role, he has been deeply involved in organisational preparations for upcoming Assembly elections in key states, including Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Puducherry.

A five-time BJP Member of the Legislative Assembly from Bihar, Nabin has built a reputation as a grassroots organiser with strong administrative skills. His rise from a party worker to the top organisational post is being widely celebrated in Bihar, where party leaders have described his journey as an inspiration for ordinary workers across the BJP’s vast organisational network.

With his unopposed election all but confirmed, Nitin Nabin is poised to lead the BJP at a crucial juncture, as the party prepares for major electoral battles and seeks to consolidate its organisational strength nationwide.
