The Election Commission (EC) has deferred Tripura’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to avoid overlap with TTAADC Village Committee elections, revising the schedule with house-to-house verification from November 6 and final electoral roll publication scheduled for February 15, 2027.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura, deferring the exercise in view of the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The decision is aimed at preventing an overlap between two major electoral processes and ensuring that election-related administrative responsibilities are carried out smoothly.

The revised schedule was communicated to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Tripura, through an official communication dated September 9, 2026, following a request from the state election machinery. The deferment comes against the backdrop of the forthcoming elections to all Village Committee constituencies under the TTAADC.

Under the revised programme, preparatory activities for the SIR exercise, including personnel training and printing-related work, will be carried out from October 27 to November 5. This phase will be followed by house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), which has been scheduled from November 6 to December 5.

The Election Commission has also directed the authorities to complete the rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations by December 5. These activities are expected to form an important part of the electoral-roll revision process before the publication of the draft electoral roll.

As per the revised timetable, the draft electoral roll will be published on December 12, 2026. Voters and other eligible stakeholders will then be able to submit claims and objections between December 12, 2026, and January 10, 2027.

The process of disposing of claims and objections, along with the required notice procedures, will continue until February 9, 2027. Following the completion of these procedures, the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on February 15, 2027.

The qualifying date for enrolment under the revised SIR exercise has been fixed as January 1, 2027. This means eligibility for inclusion in the revised electoral roll will be assessed with reference to that qualifying date.

The Election Commission’s decision to revise the SIR schedule followed a request from the Tripura election authorities. The state machinery had sought the deferment of the electoral-roll revision exercise in view of the upcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections, which are scheduled to be held on September 28.

The Village Committee election process involves several administrative and election-related responsibilities, including nomination filing, scrutiny and other preparations ahead of polling. Conducting the SIR exercise simultaneously could have placed additional responsibilities on election officials and personnel involved in the Village Committee polls.

With the revised programme, the Election Commission has effectively separated the intensive electoral-roll revision exercise from the immediate administrative requirements connected with the TTAADC Village Committee elections. The move is expected to allow the state election machinery to focus on the scheduled Village Committee polls before undertaking the detailed electoral-roll revision process.

It may be recalled that under the previous schedule, the SIR exercise in Tripura was scheduled to begin on September 5, 2026, with the final electoral roll originally slated for publication on December 23, 2026. The revised timetable therefore pushes back both the beginning and completion of the revision exercise.

The final electoral roll is now expected to be released on February 15, 2027.
