CEO at press meet: SIR to begin from September 5

Tripura will begin the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls from September 5 to ensure a transparent, accurate and updated voter list. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brijesh Pandey announced the revision schedule, with the final electoral roll to be published on December 23.

In order to make the voters list more transparent, flawless and up-to-date, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 is going to start in the state from September 5. Detailing on the SIR schedule further, the State Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey today said after the completion of the SIR final voters’ list will be published on December 23.

Today addressing the media the CEO said, as per the direction of the Election Commission of India, this SIR has been taken up for 19 States including Tripura and Union Territories. For this SIR, October 1, 2026 has been fixed as the qualifying date. That means whoever completes 18 years of age on this date will be eligible to be enlisted in the voters’ list. The main objective behind this programme is to identify the dead, relocated or duplicate voters and remove their names, as well to include the new voters and prepare a flawless and reliable voters list.

Detailing on the schedule further the CEO said, from September 15 to October 14 the Booth Level Officers (BLO) will go door-to-door to distribute enumeration forms and help the voters fill the forms. During the door-to-door survey no documents will be collected, only enumeration forms will be filled. The BLOs have been instructed to visit a house at least three times, so that no eligible voter is left out in case of his absence. The voters could also fill the enumeration form online and submit the same through the ECINET App or online portal. If required the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will notify to submit documents after the draft voter list is published.

He also informed that the draft voter list will be published on October 21. The list will be published on a specific place as well as on the government website. A copy of the same will be provided to the political parties. Afterwards, October 21 to November 20, common citizens will have a chance to incorporate, rectify, claim or complain about enrolment of a particular name. The complaints will be heard till December 19 and once the process is completed, on December 23, the final list will be published.

Referring to the present voter statistics of the state the CEO said, at present 60 Assembly Constituencies of Tripura have around 28.97 lakh voters. Out of this, 14.52 lakh are male and 14.45 lakh are female voters. To conduct the programme smoothly a total of 3,356 BLOs and 375 BLO Supervisors have been engaged for 3,356 polling stations. To facilitate verification of information, the special voter list of 2005 has also been uploaded on the website of the CEO.

The CEO further informed that to conduct the entire process smoothly necessary training of district election officer, electoral registration officer, assistant electoral registration officer, BLO, political parties and booth level agents has been completed. The political parties have also been oriented about the entire process at the state, district and subdivision level.  In order to ensure transparency in the process, all necessary administrative measures have been taken. If anybody is not satisfied with the ERO’s decision then he could approach the District Election Officer first and then appeal to the CEO later. Help Desk will be opened at the district and subdivision level to provide necessary information to the voters. In addition, toll free number will be in operation at the state and district level.

At the press meet, the CEO urged all including the political parties, media and citizens to cooperate to complete the programme successfully. He said, a flawless and reliable voter list can ensure a free, fair and transparent election. That is why he urged all not to listen to any rumour, rather check the official website of the Election Commission and official social media platform to participate in the programme. He said, the aim is to ensure that no genuine voter is left out or any ineligible voter is not there in the voter list. The press meet was also attended by the Additional CEO Usha J. Mog, Deputy CEO Suman Banik.
