The 80 years old and above as well as the Divyanga electors who would prefer to vote by postal ballot will cast their votes on June 17 and 18 , said Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Sadar) and Returning Officer to 8- Town Bordowali seat Ashim Saha.

They said, “nine teams have already been constituted for 6- Agartala constituency and another 10 teams have been formed for Bordowali seat. The teams will visit homes of the voters in 80 plus age group and Divyang voters in their respective areas on June 17 and 18 next between 8 am and 5 pm for voting in postal ballots”, said Saha.

He along with Returning Officer to Agartala seat- Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav conducted a meeting at AMC conference hall with the representatives of various political parties to discuss the process.

Saha said, if any of the voters, who opted for voting through postal ballots, miss out voting in the two days, they would not be able to exercise their democratic rights in the polling stations. He appealed to all those voters to stay home during the polling team’s visit.

He said, videography would be conducted to maintain transparency during the voting through postal ballots.

Meanwhile, this is for the first time that the Election Commission is going to conduct postal ballot voting for the voters in the 80 plus age group and Divyang voters in Tripura.

In the meantime the Election department also took all steps to ensure free and fair elections as security arrangements and patrolling by TSR jawans at night had already begun in the city areas.

A senior officer said, no stone would be left untouched to ensure a peaceful voting on June 23 next. The police was also gearing up to preventive arrests and surveillance in the city and along the border were being enhanced.
