Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said BJP-led governance has fostered spiritual awakening, faith, ethics and social harmony in the state. At a Ganesh Puja inauguration in Agartala, he urged Opposition parties to adopt positive politics and promote peace, wisdom and welfare.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said an atmosphere of spiritual awakening had emerged in the state after the BJP-led government came to power in 2018, claiming that Tripura had witnessed a shift from an atmosphere of atheism towards faith, trust, ethics and moral values.
Dr. Saha made the remarks while interacting with media persons after inaugurating a Ganesh Puja near Jackson Gate in Agartala on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. The puja was organised jointly by Grassroot Foundation, Ekdanta Club and Ganapati Samajik Sanstha at the Ujjayanta Market area.
During the programme, the Chief Minister offered prayers to Lord Ganesha and wished for happiness, peace, prosperity and the overall well-being of the people of Tripura.
“Ganesh Puja is not merely a religious ritual,” Saha said, emphasising that the festival also represents knowledge, wisdom, good sense and welfare. He expressed hope that the celebration would strengthen goodwill, harmony and mutual understanding among people across the state.
The Chief Minister also appealed to Opposition political parties to avoid negative politics and contribute towards creating a positive atmosphere in society. While acknowledging that political differences would remain, he said all political parties should work with a positive mindset in the larger interest of society and the people.
Saha further expressed hope that the blessings of Lord Ganesha would bring wisdom and good sense to Opposition leaders, urging them to focus on constructive politics and social welfare.
According to the Chief Minister, the number of puja organisations in Tripura has increased significantly since the BJP-led government assumed office. He attributed the development to what he described as the emergence of an atmosphere of theism and spiritual consciousness in the state.
The Chief Minister also spoke about preparations and practices surrounding major festivals in Tripura. He claimed that incidents of forceful collection of donations for Durga Puja had declined this year, with people increasingly making contributions voluntarily.
However, the claim regarding a reduction in forced collection remains subject to public scrutiny, as questions continue to be raised over the situation on the ground.
Responding to a question about the use of banned and excessively loud firecrackers, Saha said the police administration was taking strict action against those violating prescribed norms. He indicated that enforcement measures would continue against individuals and groups found breaching regulations related to firecrackers.
The Ganesh Puja inauguration at Jackson Gate brought together organisers, local residents and devotees as the festival began with religious ceremonies and prayers. The Chief Minister’s participation added a political and administrative dimension to the celebration, with his remarks focusing on spirituality, social harmony and responsible public conduct.
