Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha proposed a coordination committee involving the state administration, police and BSF to strengthen international border management, enhance security, prevent smuggling and illegal activities, and improve coordinated responses across vulnerable border areas.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has proposed the formation of a coordination committee involving the state administration, police and Border Security Force (BSF) to further strengthen security and management along the state’s international border with Bangladesh.
The Chief Minister made the proposal while speaking to reporters after attending the ‘Sanjiboni-3’ Blood Donation Camp, organised by the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala in collaboration with the BSF at the BSF Frontier Headquarters in Shalbagan, Agartala. BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Prince Rani was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Saha stressed the importance of closer coordination among agencies responsible for maintaining security and managing the international border. He said regular communication and joint efforts between the state administration, police and BSF could help authorities respond more effectively and swiftly to emerging security challenges.
“Border security is a matter of paramount importance,” the Chief Minister said, underlining the need for a coordinated mechanism to strengthen security arrangements along Tripura’s international boundary.
Tripura shares an international border with Bangladesh on three sides, making effective border management an important aspect of the state’s security and administrative preparedness. Against this backdrop, the proposed coordination committee could provide a platform for different agencies to work together more efficiently on border-related issues.
The Chief Minister also informed reporters that a pilot project of the smart border initiative was underway in Sepahijala district. The initiative is expected to support efforts to strengthen surveillance and improve the overall management of sensitive border areas.
Dr. Saha called for heightened vigilance in areas located along the international border to prevent illegal activities, smuggling and other forms of criminal activity. He emphasised that greater coordination between the concerned agencies would be necessary to identify potential threats and take timely action.
According to the Chief Minister, the proposed coordination mechanism would facilitate more effective joint efforts between the state administration, police and BSF. Better coordination could also help improve information sharing and operational preparedness in vulnerable areas.
He further stressed the importance of strengthening security for people residing in border areas while ensuring the maintenance of law and order. Administrative preparedness, he said, should also be improved in areas considered vulnerable from a security perspective.
The proposal comes at a time when border management remains a significant concern for Tripura because of its geographical position and extensive international boundary with Bangladesh. A structured coordination mechanism involving key security and administrative agencies could help address challenges through a more integrated approach.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also appreciated the ‘Sanjiboni-3’ blood donation camp, describing voluntary blood donation as a noble social initiative. He highlighted the importance of compassion, service and social responsibility and urged more people to come forward to donate blood.

“Every drop of blood donated can save a precious life,” Dr. Saha said, encouraging citizens to contribute to such humanitarian initiatives.
The blood donation programme brought together the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and the BSF, combining a public-service initiative with an opportunity to promote awareness about voluntary blood donation.
