Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder inspected major infrastructure projects near Bani Vidyapith School to tackle chronic drinking water shortages and monsoon waterlogging issues. The projects include an overhead reservoir, water treatment facility, drainage pump house, and Ward No. 16 office development.
Fresh efforts are underway to resolve long-standing drinking water shortages and severe monsoon waterlogging problems in several parts of Agartala city, as Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, conducted an extensive on-site inspection of multiple proposed infrastructure projects on Saturday.
The inspection focused on areas surrounding Bani Vidyapith Higher Secondary Girls’ School, where civic authorities are planning a series of major developmental initiatives aimed at improving urban infrastructure and ensuring better public services for residents. Senior engineers and officials from the Public Works (Drinking Water and Sanitation) department accompanied the Mayor during the field visit.
One of the major areas reviewed during the inspection was the site identified for the proposed Ward No. 16 office adjacent to the school premises. The Mayor assessed the suitability and planned development layout of the area as part of the municipal corporation’s broader urban expansion strategy.
Special emphasis was placed on addressing the persistent drinking water crisis affecting residents living in and around the 7-Ramnagar Assembly constituency. According to civic officials, a large-scale infrastructure project has been proposed on the school premises to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water in the locality.
The proposed initiative includes the construction of a massive overhead water reservoir tank along with a modern water treatment facility. Authorities believe the project will significantly improve the supply of potable water and reduce the long-standing hardships faced by local residents, especially during peak summer months.
During the inspection, the Mayor reviewed the feasibility, planning, and ongoing preparatory work associated with the mega project. Officials also discussed technical aspects related to water distribution and future expansion possibilities.
Apart from drinking water infrastructure, the Mayor also inspected the development of a floodwater drainage pump house near Bani Vidyapith School. The project is expected to play a crucial role in reducing water accumulation and urban flooding during the monsoon season.
Speaking during the visit, Majumder stated that the municipal corporation is giving special priority to tackling waterlogging across Agartala city. He said strengthening drainage systems and improving civic infrastructure remain among the corporation’s top priorities ahead of the monsoon season.
