A review meeting on MPLADS projects in West Tripura, chaired by the District Magistrate, stressed transparency, efficiency, and accountability. Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee highlighted directives to accelerate development, improve coordination, and ensure effective utilization of public funds.
A comprehensive review meeting on the progress and implementation of MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) projects was held at the West Tripura District Administration Conference Hall on Tuesday, with a strong focus on accountability, transparency, and efficient utilization of funds. The meeting was chaired by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar and attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who actively contributed to the detailed deliberations.
The session brought together key officials and stakeholders involved in the execution, monitoring, and evaluation of MPLADS-funded development works across the district. According to MP Bhattacharjee, the discussions were extensive, covering multiple crucial aspects related to ongoing and pending developmental initiatives under the scheme.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, MP Bhattacharjee underscored the need for a time-bound and transparent mechanism to ensure that MPLADS funds are directed toward impactful and people-centric developmental activities. He stated that the meeting thoroughly reviewed the progress of various developmental projects, including infrastructure improvements, community facilities, and other public welfare works being implemented through MPLADS allocations.
One of the primary focus areas of the discussion was the status of works executed both online and offline, a parameter that helps track transparency and ensures proper documentation. Officials presented detailed reports on the progress of sanctioned projects, the rate of completion, and the challenges encountered in field implementation. Bhattacharjee noted that the availability of accurate data and timely updates is essential for monitoring progress and preventing delays.
Another major issue addressed in the meeting was the utilization of allocated MPLADS funds, with emphasis on ensuring that the sanctioned amounts are spent effectively, without lapses or under-utilization. MP Bhattacharjee emphasized that funds must be used strictly for the intended purposes and that any deviation or delay affects the broader development objectives of the district.

The meeting also highlighted the identification of incomplete or pending projects, many of which require immediate administrative attention for faster execution. Bhattacharjee said that these projects would now be monitored more closely, with directives issued to the concerned departments to submit progress reports and expedite the remaining work.
In terms of accountability, Bhattacharjee strongly stressed the importance of on-site inspections by officials to verify the quality and pace of work. According to him, physical inspections are vital for ensuring that projects adhere to approved specifications and serve the community as intended. He added that such inspections would help detect irregularities, if any, and ensure corrective actions in time.
During the review, several key directives were issued to strengthen coordination among departments, improve inter-agency communication, and streamline project execution. Bhattacharjee stated that these instructions were essential for developing a more dynamic, transparent, and welfare-oriented framework for MPLADS implementation in West Tripura.
He further expressed confidence that the renewed focus on accountability and proactive monitoring would significantly accelerate development across the district. “The objective is to ensure that every project funded under MPLADS truly benefits the public and contributes to the district’s growth. We want to build a system where transparency and efficiency are the core principles,” he told reporters.
Officials present at the meeting assured full cooperation and expressed commitment to expediting ongoing projects in accordance with the new directives. The District Magistrate also stressed the need for a collaborative approach to achieve development goals.
