In chess, the reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju climbed back into the top 10 of the March 2026 rankings after FIDE (International Chess Federation) rectified an error in calculation last Monday. Because of this correction, Russian chess grandmaster Sergey Karjakin’s status has now been changed to inactive, and his name has been removed from the list of active players in the FIDE rating list.
FIDE said in a statement that it happened due to an oversight in the approval process; the Russian Chess Crown match, which did not follow the rules, was wrongly included in the March 2026 FIDE Rating List. FIDE said that once the mistake was discovered, the Qualification Commission (QC) removed the event from the FIDE Rating System following the rules.
