Tripura ministers hold crucial pre-budget meeting ahead of the 2026–27 Budget Session starting March 13, focusing on transport, tourism, food and civil supplies allocations, revised estimates for 2025–26, and strategic fiscal planning for sectoral growth.
A crucial pre-budget meeting was held at the state secretariat in Tripura on Monday, as preparations intensified for the upcoming Budget Session of the State Assembly for the financial year 2026–27. The session is scheduled to commence on March 13, setting the stage for key fiscal decisions that will shape the state’s development trajectory.
The meeting was attended by Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy. Held in the office chamber of the finance minister, the high-level discussion focused on proposed financial allocations for departments under Chowdhury’s charge, including Transport, Tourism, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
According to official sources, the deliberations revolved around estimated receipts and expenditure for the current financial year. Special emphasis was placed on the temporary revised estimates for 2025–26 and the Budget Estimates for 2026–27. These projections are considered critical for ensuring fiscal discipline while addressing sector-specific priorities.
In a social media post following the meeting, Minister Chowdhury stated that he presented comprehensive data and proposals outlining projected income, anticipated expenditure, and priority-based planning for the upcoming fiscal year. He emphasized the importance of adequate sector-wise allocations to strengthen infrastructure, streamline public services, and boost tourism-driven economic activity.
Finance Minister Singha Roy underscored the need for meticulous financial planning and balanced allocation of resources. He noted that the finance department is carefully reviewing submissions from all departments to ensure that the final budget reflects both development goals and fiscal sustainability.
Officials described the meeting as part of the routine pre-budget consultation process undertaken annually by the finance department. During this exercise, departments submit revised estimates for the ongoing financial year and projected fund requirements for the next fiscal. These inputs enable the finance department to finalise allocations before presenting the annual budget in the Assembly.
The transport and tourism sectors are viewed as pivotal to the state’s economic expansion strategy. Improved connectivity, enhanced tourism infrastructure, and efficient public distribution systems are expected to be major focus areas in the 2026–27 budget. The discussions also included measures to optimise revenue generation while maintaining essential public welfare commitments.
