Iran has condemned the G7 leaders for backing Israel amid escalating conflict, accusing them of ignoring Israeli aggression and attacks on civilian and nuclear infrastructure. Tehran demands UN intervention and accountability, calling the G7’s stance biased and harmful to international law and regional stability.

In a sharp rebuke of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders, Iran has accused the bloc of ignoring Israel’s “blatant aggression” amid the intensifying Israel-Iran conflict. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei lashed out at the G7’s joint statement issued at their summit in Kananaskis, Canada, saying it reveals a clear bias in favor of Israel and disregards grave violations of international law.

The G7 statement labeled Iran as the “principal source” of regional instability and terrorism and reaffirmed its commitment to preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. It also expressed support for Israel’s right to self-defense and emphasized the need for de-escalation across the region, including a ceasefire in Gaza.

However, Iran sees the situation differently. In his post on social media platform X, Baqaei condemned the G7 for failing to acknowledge what he described as an “unprovoked war of aggression” launched by Israel. He asserted that Israel has violated Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter by attacking Iranian territory and peaceful nuclear facilities.

“Member States of G7, in particular the three Permanent Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), must shoulder their legal and moral responsibility towards an egregious act of aggression against a UN member,” Baqaei stated. “They have to call a spade a spade.”

Baqueri went on to accuse Israel of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, and health centers. According to him, hundreds of Iranian civilians have been killed, and widespread destruction has been inflicted on both public and private property.

“The war of aggression on Iran is a detrimental blow to the UN Charter and international law,” Baqaei emphasized. “It is also an unprecedented attack on the principles of the non-proliferation regime, which is meant to protect non-nuclear states like Iran from such aggression.”

Calling the G7’s response “one-sided rhetoric,” Baqaei demanded that the bloc reconsider its position and acknowledge Israel’s actions as the root cause of the current escalation. He urged the United Nations Security Council to fulfill its role in maintaining international peace and security by intervening to stop what he termed Israeli “atrocities.”

“The UNSC and its member states must not defeat the very purpose of the United Nations,” he said. “The path to regional stability requires an immediate end to Israel’s aggression and accountability for its violations of international law.”

The G7’s original statement defended Israel’s actions, saying, “We, the leaders of the G7, reiterate our commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. In this context, we affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for the security of Israel. We also affirm the importance of the protection of civilians.”

Additionally, the G7 reaffirmed its longstanding stance that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons and called for broader de-escalation in the region.

Tensions between Israel and Iran have continued to escalate as the conflict entered its fifth day on Tuesday. Iran has launched multiple missile strikes on Israeli territory, triggering air raid sirens across Haifa, the Golan Heights, and various other parts of northern Israel, as confirmed by the Israeli military.

The exchange of hostilities marks one of the most dangerous flashpoints in Middle Eastern geopolitics in recent years. As international leaders urge restraint, Iran insists that it is defending itself against Israeli provocations and that the international community, particularly the G7 and the UNSC, must not turn a blind eye to what it views as violations of international norms by Israel.

With both sides refusing to back down and the international community divided in its response, the likelihood of a broader regional conflict remains a pressing concern.
