CPM-BJP violence in Khowai leaves five injured

Protracted violence between ruling BJP and opposition CPM raged Khowai on Thursday which left eight persons injured. Many a shop and vehicle was also damaged.

As scheduled the opposition CPM organised a rally in Khowai to press for their 12 point charter of demands. The rally ended peacefully but while the CPM cadres were returning home two of them- Swarup Sarkar(28) and Raju Rabidas- were attacked allegedly by BJP supporters at Lalcherra. The attack triggered tension and a group of CPM supporters pulled down the boundary wall of under construction BJP party office. One makeshift shop was also damaged. This incident was retaliated immediately as some BJP activists armed heavily with iron bars, sticks and others stormed into the CPM Sub-divisional Office, ransacked the office and damaged two cars and six motorbikes. As the police arrived on the spot they were also targeted and according to reports reaching here SDPO Rajib Sutradhar, Inspector Satyajit Mallick and SI L Darlong were injured in the assault.

CPM MLA Nirmal Biswas alleged that in the series of attacks as many as five CPM supporters. Two of them had to be hospitalized.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders blamed the CPM for creating tension in Khowai. In a press meet BJP leaders said, they will file complaints with the police against the CPM activists for pulling down the boundary wall of a new party office.
