Tripura CM Manik Saha inaugurated an integrated nursing education complex at Durjoynagar, bringing three nursing institutions under one campus. The government plans further expansion, including additional laboratories, training facilities and separate hostels, to strengthen nursing education and healthcare manpower.
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Tuesday inaugurated an integrated nursing education complex at Durjoynagar, bringing three key nursing institutions under one campus as part of efforts to strengthen nursing education, improve professional training and expand the state’s healthcare workforce.
The newly constructed campus will accommodate the Government Nursing College, B.R. Ambedkar (BRA) Nursing School and Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) Training Institute. The integration is intended to provide students and trainees with improved academic resources, better training facilities and a more coordinated learning environment.
Addressing the gathering after the inauguration, Chief Minister Manik Saha said the three institutions would now function from a common campus, reducing the difficulties students previously faced while travelling between different training centres. According to him, the earlier arrangement created logistical challenges and limited opportunities for interaction among students and faculty members.
The Chief Minister said the integrated facility would make academic activities more convenient and help improve the quality of nursing education in Tripura. He also outlined the government’s plan to develop the Durjoynagar campus into a dedicated, state-level nursing education and training hub.
As part of the proposed expansion, the government is considering acquiring additional land, including adjoining areas behind the existing complex. The additional space would support the construction of new infrastructure and accommodate the growing requirements of nursing education and practical training.

Emphasising the importance of trained nursing professionals, Saha said nurses played a central role in healthcare delivery, particularly at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs). These facilities serve communities at the grassroots level, making the availability of qualified nursing personnel essential for providing accessible and reliable medical services.
He said improving nursing education and practical training facilities would help prepare professionals to meet the healthcare needs of people in both rural and urban areas. The proposed expansion is expected to support the development of a larger pool of trained personnel for hospitals and other healthcare institutions across the state.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the financial investment made in developing the campus. According to the information shared at the programme, more than Rs. 8 crore had been allocated for the ANM training component. Additional investment will be required as the complex expands and new facilities are introduced.
To meet future academic and regulatory requirements, Saha said he had directed officials to construct an additional floor in accordance with the standards prescribed by the relevant nursing councils. The proposed expansion will include more laboratories and specialised training facilities to support classroom learning and practical instruction.
Separate hostel accommodation for male and female students is also planned. The proposed residential facilities are expected to make it easier for students from different parts of Tripura to pursue nursing education at the Durjoynagar campus.
The integrated complex is intended to bring academic instruction, practical training and student facilities closer together. Officials expect the arrangement to improve coordination among the three institutions and create a more organised environment for nursing students and trainees.
The initiative also comes amid continuing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and medical education in Tripura. Nursing professionals form an important part of the healthcare system, supporting doctors in patient care, treatment procedures, recovery and the delivery of services at different levels.
By expanding nursing education facilities, the state government aims to improve its capacity to train qualified healthcare workers and address the increasing demand for skilled nursing personnel. Better access to professional training could also support healthcare delivery in areas where medical facilities depend on adequate staffing to serve local communities.

With the inauguration of the integrated nursing education complex and plans for further infrastructure development, Durjoynagar is expected to become a central location for nursing education in Tripura. The proposed laboratories, additional academic space and separate hostels are intended to support the campus’s future growth.
The government has outlined a longer-term vision of developing the complex into a state-level nursing hub, with the broader objective of strengthening the nursing workforce and improving the availability of trained healthcare professionals across Tripura.
