Tripura BJP leaders, including CM Manik Saha and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, held a marathon meeting to prepare for upcoming urban local body elections, finalise political campaigns, defend electoral roll revision and strengthen the party’s organisational strategy.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura Pradesh leadership held a marathon organisational meeting on Tuesday at the State Guest House to discuss preparations for the forthcoming urban local body elections, finalise political campaigns and plan the implementation of programmes outlined by the party’s central leadership.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, BJP National General Secretary and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, state BJP president Abhishek Debroy, Assam and Tripura Organisation General Secretary Rabindra Raju, and newly appointed state party in-charge Mriganka Deo Barman. Cabinet ministers, MLAs, leaders of various party wings and selected organisational functionaries also participated in the discussions.
In a statement shared after the meeting, Chief Minister Manik Saha said the discussions focused primarily on the upcoming urban local body elections and the implementation of programmes initiated by the central leadership. The meeting aimed to strengthen the party organisation and establish a roadmap for its political activities across Tripura.
Speaking to reporters, Biplab Kumar Deb said the party would hold detailed discussions on its strategy for the municipal elections. He also announced that seven political programmes and campaigns had been planned for implementation in the state in phases, in accordance with the decisions of the party’s central leadership.

According to Deb, the proposed campaigns would include foot marches, interactions with young voters and press conferences in different parts of Tripura. He said the programmes were intended to communicate the party’s political position to the public and counter what he described as attempts to destabilise the country and weaken its democratic institutions.
Deb also criticised opposition parties over their protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that demonstrations organised in the name of opposing SIR were aimed at undermining established institutions, including Parliament and the judiciary. These remarks reflected the BJP leader’s position on the ongoing political debate surrounding electoral roll revision.
The party’s state leadership is expected to announce further details of the planned campaigns as preparations progress.
BJP Confident of Victory in Civic Elections
BJP Tripura Pradesh president Abhishek Debroy expressed confidence that the party would win all municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats in the forthcoming urban local body elections.
Speaking to the media ahead of the organisational meeting, Debroy said the BJP was preparing for the elections and that the candidate selection process was under discussion. He indicated that the candidate list would be announced shortly, although he did not provide a specific date.
“We are 100 per cent confident of victory,” Debroy said, attributing the party’s optimism to development initiatives undertaken by the state government under Chief Minister Manik Saha.

He cited infrastructure improvements in Agartala over the past decade and referred to development projects in Udaipur and Dharmanagar, along with proposed initiatives in Khowai. Road connectivity and infrastructure development were among the areas highlighted by the state BJP president.
Debroy acknowledged that some projects remained incomplete, stating that road construction in Khowai and work on national highways had been initiated. He added that infrastructure development required time to reach completion.
The BJP leadership is expected to use its organisational network to communicate the government’s development record to voters during the campaign. The party also intends to mobilise its workers and leaders across municipal areas as the election process approaches.
BJP Defends SIR, Accuses Opposition of Misleading Voters
The Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls emerged as another major issue during the discussions. Debroy defended the exercise, describing electoral roll revision as a normal constitutional process and referring to similar revisions undertaken during previous Congress and CPI(M) governments.
He accused the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M), of misleading the public over the process for political purposes. He said the BJP would take its position to the people and explain its arguments during its planned political programmes.
Debroy also alleged that the Congress and CPI(M) were cooperating in an attempt to regain political power. He maintained that voters would respond to the opposition through democratic means.

The SIR issue has become a point of political contention, with the BJP defending the revision process while opposition parties have raised objections. The planned campaigns are expected to provide the BJP with a platform to present its position on the matter to voters across Tripura.
Leadership Unity and Organisational Discipline
Responding to questions about possible factionalism within the BJP and its potential impact on the municipal elections, Debroy said the party operated according to organisational discipline and that members would follow decisions taken by the leadership.
He dismissed concerns about internal differences, expressing confidence in the party’s organisational strength and its ability to contest the civic polls effectively. He also referred to the support of the national leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and expressed confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Manik Saha and National General Secretary Biplab Kumar Deb.
