Tripura State Election Commission begins preparations for TTAADC Village Committee elections, directing Returning Officers to finalize polling station lists after claims, objections, and consultations with political parties across all village constituencies.
Preparations for the upcoming Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) have officially commenced, with the State Election Commission (SEC) issuing detailed guidelines for the preparation and finalisation of polling stations across the state’s tribal areas.
In a notification issued by SEC Secretary Anurag Sen, Returning Officers have been instructed to initiate the process of preparing polling station lists in accordance with Rule 10 of the TTAADC Village Committees (Conduct of Election) Rules, 1996. The Returning Officers, who are serving as Block Development Officers (BDOs), have been directed to ensure that the exercise is completed within the stipulated timeline laid down by the commission.
As per the notification, the draft publication of polling station lists will take place on May 11. Political parties, local organisations, and residents will be allowed to submit claims and objections regarding the proposed polling stations until May 15. The SEC has fixed May 16 for the disposal of all objections and claims, while the final publication of polling station lists is scheduled for May 18.
The commission has instructed all Returning Officers to prepare polling station lists block-wise, covering every Village Constituency falling under their respective administrative jurisdictions. Officials have also been directed to follow a systematic numbering process while assigning serial numbers to polling stations.
According to the SEC notification, the numbering should begin from the North-West corner and continue towards the South-East corner while taking all Village Committees under a block into consideration. The commission stated that this method is intended to maintain uniformity and administrative clarity during the conduct of elections.
The SEC further directed that draft polling station lists must be prepared in the prescribed format. Copies of the draft lists are to be supplied to local units of all recognised political parties to ensure transparency and allow political stakeholders to review the arrangements before finalisation.
In addition, notices regarding the draft publication of polling stations will be displayed prominently at the offices of the Returning Officers and Village Committees so that members of the public can inspect the lists and raise objections if necessary.
The commission clarified that the final publication of polling stations would only be completed after addressing all claims and objections and after discussions with political parties concerned.

The notification marks a significant administrative step ahead of the forthcoming TTAADC Village Committee elections, which are considered crucial for grassroots governance in the tribal regions of Tripura. The TTAADC administers large tribal areas of the state and plays an important role in local self-governance and rural administration.
