Tripura mountaineers Aritra Roy and Paramita Sarkar aim to conquer Mount Aconcagua in Argentina as part of the Seven Summits Challenge, attempting a rare self-supported climb that highlights courage, resilience, and Tripura’s growing presence in global mountaineering.

Tripura is set to witness another proud chapter in its sporting and adventure history as two of its most accomplished mountaineers, Aritra Roy and Paramita Sarkar, prepare to take on Mount Aconcagua in Argentina. Standing at a formidable height of 6,691 metres (23,000 feet), Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia and the tallest peak in both South America and the Southern Hemisphere.

The upcoming expedition is more than just another climb. It represents a major milestone in the duo’s shared ambition to complete the prestigious Seven Summits Challenge, an elite mountaineering pursuit that involves scaling the highest peak on each of the world’s seven continents.

Aritra Roy is already a celebrated name in Tripura’s adventure sports community. His successful ascent of Mount Everest placed him among the state’s most elite mountaineers and showcased his exceptional ability to endure extreme altitude, severe weather, and prolonged physical stress. His Everest expedition also inspired a new generation of young climbers from the Northeast to dream beyond regional boundaries.

Paramita Sarkar, meanwhile, has emerged as one of Tripura’s most promising female mountaineers. Her achievements include successful summits of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe, both part of the Seven Summits list. Her steady rise in international mountaineering circles has made her a symbol of resilience and empowerment, particularly for young women aspiring to excel in adventure sports.

For the first time, Aritra and Paramita will join forces for a major international expedition. Their decision to climb together is rooted in mutual respect, complementary strengths, and a shared long-term vision of conquering all seven continental summits as a unified team.

What makes their Aconcagua mission particularly remarkable is their bold decision to attempt the climb without guides, porters, or local expedition companies. The duo plans to operate as a completely self-supported team, carrying their own equipment, managing logistics independently, navigating the route on their own, and making critical decisions without external assistance.

Such an approach is rare even among seasoned climbers. Aconcagua is notorious for its volatile weather, powerful winds, extreme cold, and altitude-related risks. Despite being a non-technical peak, it has claimed numerous lives over the years due to sudden storms, exhaustion, and altitude sickness. Attempting the mountain without professional support requires exceptional preparation, discipline, and mental strength.

Speaking about their motivation, the climbers said the expedition represents more than a physical challenge. “This climb is not just about reaching the summit. It is about testing our limits, trusting each other, and proving that mountaineers from Tripura can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best,” they told Tripura Times.

The team is scheduled to depart for Argentina on December 24, 2025. After a carefully planned acclimatisation phase, they will begin their ascent toward the summit. If conditions remain favourable and the climb proceeds as planned, the duo is expected to return to Agartala by January 19, 2026.

Beyond the immediate goal of Aconcagua, Aritra and Paramita are driven by a broader partnership vision. They intend to continue climbing together until they complete all seven continental summits, a feat achieved by only a select group of mountaineers worldwide.

The duo expressed deep gratitude to the Governor of Tripura for encouragement and moral support, which they said has strengthened their resolve. They also acknowledged the crucial backing of several institutions, including the Department of Skill Development, the District Magistrate of North Tripura, Tripura Gramin Bank, and the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). According to the climbers, these organisations have played a significant role in enabling them to pursue their ambitions and represent Tripura on the global stage.

As they prepare for the demanding expedition, Aritra and Paramita have made a heartfelt appeal to the people of Tripura, seeking their blessings and good wishes. They emphasised that the journey is not merely a personal adventure but a collective aspiration that carries the pride and hopes of the entire state.

“This climb is for Tripura,” they said. “Every step we take on Aconcagua will carry the hopes of our people.”

Their mission has already generated excitement among adventure enthusiasts and young aspirants across the state. Many view the duo as living examples of perseverance, courage, and the limitless possibilities that arise when passion is matched with purpose and discipline.
