Aritra Roy Conquers Mount Everest

High above the clouds, where the air thins and the Earth meets the sky, a young mountaineer from a quiet neighborhood in Tripura etched his name into history. Aritra Roy, hailing from Badharghat in Agartala, had dreamed of the mountains since childhood. On the morning of May 19, at precisely 7:31 a.m. Nepal time, that dream reached its highest point — quite literally — as he stood atop Mount Everest, 29,035 feet above sea level.

This feat made Aritra the first  youth from Tripura to conquer the world’s tallest peak. But the journey to this triumph had begun much earlier, on March 16, when he departed from his hometown with little more than a rucksack, a heart full of resolve, and the blessings of those who believed in him.

As fate would have it, Aritra’s summit coincided with a date steeped in mountaineering legend — just ten days short of the 72nd anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s first successful ascent of Everest on May 29, 1953. That historical echo added a profound weight to the young mountaineer’s achievement.

Before his final push to the summit, Aritra received words of encouragement from Pranab Akhanda, a veteran mountaineer and fellow Tripura native. On this day of glory, Akhanda’s voice was among the first to ring with congratulations for the braveheart who had dared and conquered.

Aritra’s story is also a personal tribute — the legacy of his late father, Sanjoy Roy, a respected football coach in the region, and his mother, Kakoli Roy, who watched her son rise above unimaginable odds. From the foothills of Tripura to the death zone of the Himalayas, Aritra battled biting winds, treacherous storms, and exhaustion that tests even the most seasoned climbers. What kept him going was not just training or stamina, but something far stronger — unshakable resolve.

Now, as he begins the perilous descent back to base camp, the journey is far from over. The mountains remain unforgiving, and each step downward still demands courage and caution. Yet across Tripura, hearts are full — of pride, of awe, and of hope. Prayers pour in for his safe return.

Communication remains limited from such high altitudes, and many await more news. But for now, Aritra Roy stands not just as a mountaineer, but as a symbol — of youth, of possibility, and of a small state with a towering dream now realized.
