Tripura’s first National Lok Adalat 2026 takes up 23,698 cases, targeting nearly 80 percent disposal. Justice T Amarnatha Goud highlights coordinated efforts by TSLSA, judiciary, and police to reduce backlog and deliver swift justice statewide.
The first National Lok Adalat of 2026 in Tripura witnessed a massive response as 23,698 cases were taken up for settlement across the state on Saturday. Authorities expect an impressive disposal rate of nearly 80 percent, reinforcing the state’s consistent record of high settlement achievements in alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
The Mega Lok Adalat was organized by the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) as part of nationwide efforts to reduce the backlog of pending cases and provide speedy justice to litigants. According to officials, the initiative reflects the judiciary’s commitment to efficient and people-friendly legal processes.
Executive Chairman of TSLSA and Judge of the Tripura High Court, Justice T Amarnatha Goud, expressed optimism about achieving an approximately 80 percent disposal rate. Speaking to media persons, Justice Goud said that Tripura has consistently recorded settlement rates of not less than 70 percent in previous Lok Adalats. He added that the authorities are hopeful of surpassing earlier benchmarks this year.
Justice Goud emphasized that a high number of settlements would significantly reduce the burden on courts while offering substantial relief to litigants who have been awaiting resolution. He also highlighted the collaborative efforts of judicial officers, police personnel, and various government departments in ensuring the smooth and effective conduct of the Mega Lok Adalat.
Out of the total cases listed, nearly 5,000 were taken up in West Tripura district alone, where five judicial benches were operational. Across the state, 28 benches were constituted in different courts to handle the extensive caseload efficiently.
Official sources revealed that among the 23,698 cases, a substantial 18,368 cases were related to the Motor Vehicles Act. Additionally, 4,503 cases fell under the TP Act, 207 under the TG Act, and 620 under the Excise Act. The dominance of motor accident and traffic-related disputes underscores the importance of Lok Adalats in delivering faster compensation and settlements.
The Mega Lok Adalat supplements the four National Lok Adalats conducted annually, further strengthening the justice delivery framework. By resolving disputes amicably and swiftly, the initiative not only reduces judicial backlog but also promotes harmony between disputing parties.
