More than 10,900 people remain in 78 relief camps across Tripura as monsoon floodwaters recede rapidly. Authorities continue relief, damage assessment, and restoration efforts while monitoring river levels and forecasting further rainfall to ensure public safety across the affected districts.

Even as rainfall has ceased across almost all districts of Tripura, the state continues to grapple with the aftermath of the recent monsoon floods that inundated several regions, displaced thousands of residents, and damaged hundreds of homes. While the overall flood situation has shown marked improvement with river water levels receding rapidly, authorities remain on high alert as relief operations, restoration work, and damage assessments continue across the affected districts.

According to the latest Detailed Situation Report (DSR) issued by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) till 5 pm on Thursday, more than 10,900 people belonging to 2,787 families are still taking shelter in 78 relief camps established across the state. The camps continue to provide food, drinking water, medical assistance, and other essential services to families affected by the floods triggered by two days of intense monsoon rainfall.

A senior official associated with the state’s disaster response authority said that although rainfall has stopped in nearly every district, the administration is maintaining close surveillance over the evolving situation.

“The rainfall has stopped. Water levels in the rivers are receding rapidly. We are continuously monitoring the situation and will undertake every possible measure to ensure the safety and security of all flood-affected residents,” the official stated.

The latest report revealed that 862 houses have suffered damage across Tripura due to flooding and associated rain-related incidents. Among them, 64 houses were completely destroyed, 93 sustained severe damage, while 717 houses were partially damaged. Officials confirmed that no fresh casualties or injuries have been reported following the recent spell of heavy rain. Detailed assessments of property damage are currently underway, after which financial assistance will be provided to eligible affected families under government norms.

Among all the districts, Unakoti remains the worst affected. The district is currently operating 35 relief camps, sheltering 6,068 people from 1,415 families. Within the district, Kailashahar subdivision has 12 relief camps accommodating 3,341 people, while Kumarghat subdivision has 23 camps providing shelter to 2,727 people.

Khowai district has also witnessed significant displacement, with 24 relief camps housing 2,844 people from 824 families. In Dhalai district, 20 relief camps are accommodating 1,913 people from 523 families, while North Tripura district has one operational relief camp providing shelter to 80 people.

Authorities have also responded to several rain-induced emergencies during the day. A landslide at 18 Mura, 36 Mile under Mungiakami Block in Teliamura temporarily disrupted road connectivity before personnel from the Central Disaster Volunteers (CDV) and AMV teams cleared the debris and restored traffic movement.

In separate incidents, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) removed two large trees that had fallen across East and West Sardukarkari roads, ensuring smooth vehicular movement. Another landslide on the Natun Chan Bari-Dasgaria road in Khowai subdivision was cleared by the Public Works Department, while local residents successfully removed debris from the Tirthamukh-Nuncherra road in Gomati district.

Although water levels are declining steadily, several rivers continue to remain above danger or critical marks. The Manu River at Kailashahar was flowing above the danger level at 24.57 metres, while the Deo River at Kumarghat and the Manu River at Longtharai Valley remained above critical levels. The Khowai River at Khowai town also continued to flow at a critical level. Several other rivers, including the Howrah, Juri, Kakri, and Bijoy, remained above their expected flood levels, prompting continued monitoring by the authorities.

Rainfall data indicated that Kumarghat recorded the highest rainfall at 145.5 mm, followed by Khowai (140.4 mm), Chhamanu (134.2 mm), Nidebi (128.4 mm), Amarpur (119.6 mm), and Kailashahar (110.8 mm) during the recent spell of heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the SEOC has forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers across most parts of Tripura over the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm is likely at one or two locations, keeping disaster management agencies, district administrations, and emergency response teams on alert to tackle any fresh weather-related emergencies.
