Tripura launches Rs 105-crore rural livelihood mission to boost entrepreneurship, credit access, and community-driven development. TRLM initiatives like TRIPTI, Nabadisha Abhiyan, and Samriddhi 2.0 aim to transform villages into sustainable, self-reliant hubs of innovation and economic growth.

Tripura’s rural landscape is witnessing a decisive shift as the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) unveiled a comprehensive package of livelihood initiatives worth Rs 105 crore, designed to accelerate grassroots entrepreneurship and strengthen self-reliance across the state’s villages. The ambitious rollout, officials say, is expected to redefine the rural economy by creating opportunities for sustainable income generation instead of temporary support.

Speaking at a capacity-building program in Agartala, organized in collaboration with The Nudge Institute, TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, highlighted that the mission represents a transition “from subsistence to sustainability.” According to him, the new vision is not limited to poverty alleviation but seeks to empower rural households to become consistent contributors to economic growth. “We are building communities that can stand on their own, innovate, and grow with resilience,” Chakma noted.

At the heart of this transformation lies Project TRIPTI, one of TRLM’s flagship interventions. The initiative has already extended its support to more than 4,000 households in the Ambassa, Ganganagar, and Dasda blocks. These households are being equipped with business assets, financial assistance, skill development inputs, and essential market linkages that help them transition from vulnerable livelihoods to structured income-earning activities. Officials argue that such interventions are crucial in ensuring long-term economic stability for rural families who have historically lacked access to institutional support.

Another key driver of this rural resurgence is the CM Nabadisha Abhiyan, inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, which seeks to bring marginalized families into the fold of structured livelihood programs. Targeting tribal communities, Scheduled Caste households, and other socially vulnerable groups, the initiative expands the outreach of TRLM to some of the state’s most remote regions where development opportunities remain limited.

Supporting this momentum is the soon-to-be-launched Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana, a mission aligned with inclusive growth principles. The scheme is expected to strengthen the social and economic participation of disadvantaged communities by promoting group-based enterprises, access to financial services, and digital empowerment tools. Officials believe that the combined push from TRIPTI, Nabadisha Abhiyan, and the upcoming Samaveshi Aajeevika Yojana will create a strong foundation for inclusive rural prosperity.

As Tripura’s rural economy gains confidence, preparations are underway for the upcoming Saras Mela, scheduled for mid-December. The event is set to bring together thousands of women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs), who will showcase a wide range of products—from handicrafts and hand-woven textiles to traditional food items and rural innovations. For many of these women, Saras Mela is more than an exhibition; it is a platform for brand-building, market exposure, and financial independence. The growing presence of SHG-led enterprises, officials noted, is a testament to the mission’s impact on women-driven entrepreneurship.

In yet another major push, TRLM has rolled out the Samriddhi 2.0 credit campaign, with an ambitious target of sanctioning Rs 181 crore in loans within 40 days. This follows the notable success of Samriddhi 1.0, which facilitated credit access worth Rs 198 crore for SHG members and small entrepreneurs across the state. The enhanced credit flow is designed to boost micro-enterprises, agricultural ventures, livestock activities, and service-based businesses that form the backbone of rural livelihoods.

Officials emphasized that Tripura’s integrated model—combining credit access, skill training, enterprise incubation, and digital empowerment—is positioning the state as a potential national leader in rural innovation. Unlike traditional welfare schemes, the TRLM approach promotes entrepreneurship and community-based development, ensuring that rural families evolve from being recipients of aid to becoming active contributors to the state’s economy.

They noted that the focus on end-to-end enterprise support—from training to financing and from branding to marketing—ensures that rural entrepreneurs not only start businesses but also sustain and scale them. With strong institutional backing and expanding market avenues, Tripura’s villages are gradually emerging as vibrant centers of economic activity.

As the state continues to push forward with high-impact livelihood initiatives, analysts believe that Tripura is setting an example for other Northeastern states by demonstrating how strategic investment and community-driven development can reshape the rural economic landscape.

The Rs 105-crore infusion, coupled with complementary credit and capacity-building initiatives, marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s journey toward rural transformation and self-reliance.
