The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has announced plans to hold a Guwahati Abhiyan on May 7th to demand a second rail line connecting every district and sub-division of the state. Party President Birjit Sinha made the announcement during a press conference held at the party office in Agartala on Thursday.

Sinha welcomed the recent proposal by the BJP government to establish a second rail line in Tripura but stressed that the Congress party’s demand was for a rail line that touched every district headquarter and sub-division of the state. He pointed out that such a rail line would enhance connectivity with neighbouring Bangladesh, particularly if it touched Sabroom headquarters, which is emerging as a new business hub due to its trade potential with Bangladesh.

During the press conference, Sinha also revealed that the Congress party would press for the establishment of a rail division in Tripura. The party intends to meet the General Manager of the Maligaon-based North-East Frontier Railway division on May 8th to press for their demands.

In addition, the Congress president informed reporters that the party will launch a Delhi Abhiyan to demand the operation of Kamalpur airport and the establishment of a second airport at Kailasahar. He noted that during the UPA government’s time, former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had approved the Kailasahar airport as one of the 100 approved airports in the country. However, the state government failed to acquire the necessary land for the project during the previous Left Front government’s tenure. Sinha expressed hope that the present government would work to enhance the connectivity of the state by addressing this issue.
