Addressing queries from MLA and Chief Whip of the state legislative assembly, Kalyani Ray, the minister highlighted significant investments and initiatives aimed at transforming Tripura into a prominent tourist destination.

Key Investments and Developments

Over the past five years, approximately ₹500 crore has been spent on improving the state’s tourism infrastructure. Chowdhury noted that major tourist destinations are being upgraded under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, including:

  • Tripura Sundari Temple: Infrastructural development costing ₹37.80 crore is nearing completion, positioning it as a key spiritual tourism center in India.
  • Neer Mahal, Dumbur, and Chabimura: Beautification projects are underway to enhance their appeal.
  • Modern Amenities: The state has introduced 50 boats and two modern buses for use at water-based tourist sites.

Completed Projects under Swadesh Darshan 1.0

The minister informed the assembly that key tourist destinations across the state, including Agartala, Sepahijala, Melagarh, Udaipur, Amarpur, Mandirghat, Tirthamukh, Narikelkunja, Dumbur, Ambassa, Neer Mahal, and Baramura, have undergone substantial infrastructural development.

Promoting Eco-Tourism and Home Stays

To make tourism more engaging and inclusive, the government has initiated district-wise package tours and home stays at various locations:

  • Narikelkunja (Dumbur Lake): Nine home stays are operational in the area.
  • Jampui Hills: Four home stays are currently available.
The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), under the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), plans to develop additional islands around Narikelkunja to attract more tourists.

Future Plans with Swadesh Darshan 2.0

Under the upcoming Swadesh Darshan 2.0 project, the government is focusing on enhancing tourist attractions in Unakoti and Agartala. These efforts aim to further solidify the state's standing as a desirable destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Vision for Tripura Tourism

The minister emphasized that these initiatives reflect the state’s commitment to modernizing its tourism sector while preserving its cultural and natural heritage. With continued investments and innovative projects, Tripura is on track to emerge as a unique and vibrant destination in India’s tourism landscape.
