Iconic Ujjayanta Palace to become Weekend Tourist Hub

In a bid to further develop the tourism industry centered around the iconic Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, the cabinet has announced plans to build a weekend tourist hub in the vicinity. The palace, which has recently become a major attraction for tourists, will now offer enhanced facilities and entertainment options to visitors.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, while briefing the cabinet decision on Thursday, outlined the key features of the proposed weekend tourist hub. The front side of the Ujjayanta Palace will be transformed into a vibrant area offering various amenities and activities. The hub will include dhabas (roadside eateries), food stalls, selfie points, and boating facilities on the Rajbari lakes, providing a range of experiences for tourists.

To ensure convenience for visitors, specific measures will be implemented. The road from Lakshminarayan Bari to Rabindra Bhavan Chowmuhani and the stretch from the park in front of Ujjayanta Palace to the Jackson Gate will be declared a no-entry zone on Saturdays and Sundays from 4 pm to 9 pm. This restriction aims to ease traffic congestion and create a more enjoyable environment for tourists.

One of the prominent additions to the tourist hub will be a permanent stage constructed in front of the Palace. This stage will serve as a venue for various cultural programs, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich artistic heritage of the state. The regular cultural performances will be scheduled every Saturday and Sunday, providing entertainment and a taste of Tripura's diverse cultural traditions.

Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the development of the weekend tourist hub will not only enhance the tourism industry but also generate employment opportunities for the youth and local artists of the state. The project aims to create a vibrant and inclusive destination that showcases the unique cultural identity of Tripura and provides an enjoyable experience for tourists.
