Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha says over 70% of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s internal security directives have been implemented, strengthening policing, law and order, and internal security preparedness across the state.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday announced that more than 70 percent of the internal security-related directives issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have already been implemented in the state. The measures are aimed at strengthening Tripura’s preparedness against emerging internal security threats and enhancing overall law and order.

Dr Saha made the statement after chairing a state-level review meeting on the outcomes of the 60th All India Conference of Directors General of Police (DGs) and Inspectors General of Police (IGs), held recently in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The review meeting took place at Pragna Bhavan and was attended by senior administrative and police officials of the state.

The Chief Minister said the review was a follow-up to the national-level conference held on November 29 and 30, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval participated in extensive deliberations on internal security, policing reforms, and emerging threats facing the country.

“The Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, and senior police leadership discussed internal security challenges concerning the entire nation as well as some specific states. With crimes constantly evolving and security threats becoming more complex, detailed discussions were held on how certain protests are funded by NGOs and foreign sources, and how logistical support is arranged,” Dr Saha said.

He added that the conference focused on identifying new methods to counter these challenges and strengthen coordination between central and state security agencies. According to the Chief Minister, a comprehensive and strategic roadmap was laid out during the conference, which states were instructed to implement at the ground level.

Dr Saha emphasized that policing today extends far beyond traditional crime prevention. “The police force now shoulders responsibilities ranging from disaster response and public safety to managing social challenges. Their role has expanded significantly, and they must remain prepared to respond to multiple situations simultaneously,” he said.

Referring to recent geopolitical developments, the Chief Minister highlighted India’s evolving stance on national security and foreign policy. He cited the period following Operation Sindoor, noting that while several foreign countries offered advice, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar clearly stated that India requires partners, not unsolicited suggestions.

“Before 2014, India faced instability and persistent challenges from neighboring countries like Pakistan and China. There were repeated attempts to weaken the nation, especially by Pakistan, resulting in the martyrdom of several BSF, CRPF, and police personnel. Such situations cannot be allowed to continue,” Dr Saha said.

The Chief Minister reiterated that Tripura has already implemented over 70 percent of the suggestions and directions issued by Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during the conference. “We are moving in the right direction, and the results are evident. However, there is no room for complacency. We must strengthen these efforts further,” he added.

During the meeting, Dr Saha urged senior police officers to align their functioning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building a “New India” and work collectively towards shaping a “New Tripura.” He directed all police officials to carefully read, understand, and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Prime Minister.

Highlighting the importance of democratic values in maintaining law and order, the Chief Minister stressed that a strong democracy ensures effective policing. He called upon the police force to remain pro-people and empathetic in their approach.

“Uniform is not just attire; it is an ornament that must be worn with pride. The behavior, conduct, and expressions of police officers should reflect empathy and respect toward citizens,” Dr Saha said.

He also clarified that he rarely interferes in the day-to-day functioning of the police, maintaining that professional autonomy is essential for effective policing. The state government, he added, follows the same principle, providing what he described as a “golden opportunity” for the Tripura Police to set an example in efficient law enforcement and public trust.

“This is the time for Tripura Police to transform the state into a model of effective policing, strong internal security, and people-centric law and order management,” the Chief Minister stated.
