In a bid to elevate healthcare services across the state, the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital have unveiled a slew of innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and diagnostic capabilities.

During a recent press conference addressing the advancements in the hospital’s healthcare services, Professor and Head of the Department of Radiodiagnosis, Dr. Ashim Dey, shed light on the groundbreaking developments that are set to revolutionize medical care in the region.

A pivotal addition to the hospital’s repertoire is the introduction of state-of-the-art 3D mammography services, marking a significant milestone as the first facility in the state to offer such cutting-edge technology. This sophisticated system enables the comprehensive detection of cancer, surpassing the capabilities of private healthcare institutions within the state.

Dr. Dey emphasized the transformative impact of the 3D mammography service, underlining its potential to enhance early detection and improve patient outcomes in the battle against cancer.

Furthermore, the hospital has embarked on the implementation of an innovative e-hospital service, aimed at streamlining patient records and facilitating seamless communication among healthcare professionals. Through this digital platform, radiology examination reports are swiftly disseminated to various user points across the hospital, including ICU, MICU, Orthopedics ward, trauma center, and emergency medicine center. This real-time access to diagnostic information empowers medical practitioners to initiate timely interventions and expedite patient care.

In addition to these advancements, AGMC and GBP Hospital have expanded their medical offerings with the introduction of interventional radiology services. Launched in 2021, this specialized branch of radiology focuses on non-vascular interventions, enabling advanced medical examinations and treatments for patients.

However, Dr. Dey highlighted the pressing need for additional manpower within the radiology department to ensure round-the-clock coverage and seamless service delivery. Presently, the department operates with a team of 18 radiologists, a number deemed insufficient to meet the growing demands of the hospital. To address this shortfall, a proposal for the recruitment of 10 additional radiologists has been set in motion, signaling the hospital’s commitment to bolstering its healthcare workforce and improving patient care standards.
