Minister for Animal Resource Development, Sudhangshu Das, undertook a surprise visit to Kumarghat Veterinary Hospital in Unakoti district on Friday, accompanied by officials, including Niraj Kumar Chanchal. The visit was prompted by concerns raised over the discovery of expired medicines and irregularities in the hospital’s stock.
Upon thorough inspection, Minister Das identified significant discrepancies in the inventory of medicines, with a notable portion found to be past their expiration dates. Dissatisfied with the explanations provided by the official in charge of the hospital, the minister took immediate and decisive action.
In response to the alarming situation, Minister Das ordered the immediate closure of the hospital’s office for a period of two days. Simultaneously, he issued a directive for an urgent and comprehensive inquiry into the matter, aiming to investigate the causes of the irregularities and expired medicines within the hospital’s inventory.
Expressing his concern, Minister Sudhangshu Das emphasized, “The department will conduct a thorough inquiry into the entire situation, and appropriate action will be taken against the responsible officials.” This proactive measure underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of healthcare services in veterinary facilities. The focus is not only on rectifying the immediate issues but also on implementing measures to prevent such irregularities in the future, ensuring the well-being of animals in the region.
