PM Modi holds crucial meeting with Chief Ministers on West Asia crisis, focusing on India’s preparedness, fuel security, supply chains, and global geopolitical impact amid rising Iran-Israel-US tensions and disruptions to maritime routes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to interact with Chief Ministers across the country via video conferencing on Friday to assess India’s preparedness in light of the escalating West Asia crisis. The high-level meeting underscores the Centre’s effort to ensure coordinated action between the Union and states as geopolitical uncertainties intensify.

According to official sources, Chief Ministers from election-bound states will not participate in the meeting due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. However, a separate review session involving Chief Secretaries of those states will be conducted through the Cabinet Secretariat to ensure continuity in administrative preparedness.

The interaction is expected to focus on fostering synergy among states under the broader vision of “Team India.” With the crisis in West Asia deepening—particularly involving tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States—the global ramifications are becoming increasingly evident. Disruptions in key maritime trade routes, rising fuel prices, and concerns over supply chain stability have prompted urgent policy coordination.

Earlier this week, the central government convened an all-party meeting at the Parliament House complex in New Delhi to deliberate on the situation. The meeting was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and witnessed participation from senior ministers including Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

In his address to Parliament, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the government’s proactive stance, revealing the formation of seven empowered groups tasked with developing strategies across critical sectors. These include fuel management, fertiliser supply, logistics, and overall economic resilience to counter the fallout of the ongoing conflict.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, speaking after the all-party meeting, expressed gratitude to leaders across the political spectrum for their constructive engagement. He confirmed that concerns raised by opposition parties were addressed comprehensively and noted that there was broad political consensus in supporting the government’s response strategy.

Opposition leaders, including Mukul Wasnik, Tariq Anwar, CPI-M MP John Brittas, and Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, were also present during the deliberations, highlighting the bipartisan nature of the discussions.

The West Asia crisis has raised serious concerns over the safety of Indian nationals residing in Gulf countries, as well as the security of vital shipping lanes that are crucial for India’s energy imports. The government’s ongoing efforts aim to mitigate these risks while ensuring economic stability.
