Deadly Andhra Pradesh bus accident kills 14 in fiery crash after collision with tipper truck near Markapuram. Multiple injured, rescue operations underway, and probe ordered as victims include women and children in tragic highway disaster.
At least 14 people were killed and 15 others injured in a devastating road accident after a private travel bus collided with a tipper truck and caught fire in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district on Thursday morning, police officials confirmed.
The tragic incident occurred near Rayavaram at around 6:30 a.m., when the bus, operated by Harikrishna Travels, rammed into a tipper truck carrying a load of concrete from Chimakurthy. The collision, which took place near a stone quarry, triggered a massive blaze that engulfed both vehicles within minutes, leaving passengers trapped inside.
According to preliminary reports, there were 35 passengers on board the bus, which was traveling from Hyderabad to Pamuru in Prakasam district. Many of the victims were residents of Kanigiri and Pamuru. The intensity of the fire was so severe that at least 14 passengers were burnt alive, while 15 others sustained injuries, some of them critical.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrifying, with flames rapidly consuming the bus before passengers could escape. However, around 10 passengers managed to jump out of the vehicle moments after the fire broke out, saving their lives.
Emergency response teams, including police and fire department personnel, rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. Three fire engines were deployed to control the blaze, which took considerable time to extinguish due to the intensity of the fire and the combustible materials involved.
The injured were immediately shifted to the government hospital in Markapuram, where doctors confirmed that several victims remain in critical condition. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise further as some of the injured battle for survival.
Officials stated that both vehicles were completely gutted in the fire, complicating rescue and identification efforts. The presence of women and children among the victims has deepened the tragedy, sparking widespread grief in the affected communities.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has expressed condolences over the loss of lives and directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. Authorities have been instructed to determine the cause of the collision and assess whether negligence or mechanical failure played a role.
Road safety experts have once again highlighted the dangers posed by early morning travel and high-speed driving on highways, especially near industrial zones such as quarries where heavy vehicles frequently operate.
