Transgender women athletes have been barred from competing in women’s events at the Olympics after the International Olympic Committee approved a new eligibility policy today. The move follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which established federal restrictions for athletes who do not meet specific biological sex criteria. IOC President Kirsty Coventry explained that the decision was driven by the need to maintain fairness, noting that even minor physical differences can determine Olympic outcomes. She further clarified that the committee no longer considers it equitable for biological males to compete within the female category.
