Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced financial assistance of ₹5 crore each to the states of Kerala and Tripura to aid in rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts following severe natural disasters. The funds will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

The decision follows a telephonic conversation between Majhi, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, during which Majhi expressed his sorrow over the significant loss of lives and property in both states. He also assured that Odisha stands ready to support the ongoing recovery work.

Both Vijayan and Saha expressed their gratitude for the aid, recognizing the challenges faced by their states in the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides. Majhi further extended his thanks to both states for supporting the Odia community residing there during these difficult times.

Tripura has been reeling under severe floods caused by relentless rains since August 19, with 31 lives lost and over 72,000 people displaced. Several BJP-ruled states, including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam, have already stepped in to provide financial support to Tripura.

Kerala, on the other hand, was hit by catastrophic landslides in Wayanad district in late July, resulting in the deaths of over 300 people. The landslides, triggered by heavy rainfall, have been one of the deadliest disasters in Kerala’s recent history. Among the victims were two doctors from Odisha, Dr. Bishnu Prasad Chinara and Dr. Swadhin Panda, who tragically lost their lives.
